Manuel S. Paulos

Born in Soutelinho da Raia, Chaves, Portugal, Manuel immigrated to the United States in 1972 and made Bridgeport, Connecticut, his home for most of his life. Before immigrating to the United States, Manuel proudly served in the Portuguese Army and later served as a police officer in Chaves, Portugal.

Most recently, Manuel resided in Trumbull, Connecticut, where he remained close to his family. Manuel worked for Automatic Plating Company in Bridgeport for more than 20 years before his retirement.

A proud Portuguese man and lifelong soccer fan, Manuel could often be found relaxing in his favorite recliner, cheering for his beloved FC Porto, making wine, or proudly supporting the Portuguese national team.

Above all, Manuel’s greatest joy was his grandchildren. He cherished caring for them when they were babies and watching them grow throughout the years. Even when walking became difficult, he looked forward to waiting for them to get off the school bus each day. The time he spent with his grandchildren, from their earliest days through the years that followed, was among the greatest joys of his life.

Manuel was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother and sister, all of Soutelinho da Raia, Portugal.

He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Olinda (Garcia) Paulos; his daughter, Suzana Paulos of Trumbull, Connecticut, and her children, Aubree and Jayce DaCosta; and his daughter, Marcelina Fernandes of Oxford, Connecticut, and her husband, Louis Fernandes, and their sons, Aidan, Cristiano, and Giovanni. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

Manuel will be remembered for his pride in his Portuguese heritage, his love of soccer, and, most of all, the special place his grandchildren held in his heart. His quiet presence, familiar routines, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation Thursday, August 13th, 8:30 – 10 am at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated immediately following visitation beginning at 11am Our Lady of Fatima, 429 Huntington Road, Bridgeport. Entombment will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Street, Bridgeport.
