She was the beloved wife of 59 years to Robert Louis Tranzillo of Monroe.
Marge was born on January 13, 1941 at the former Park City Hospital in Bridgeport to the late Joseph and Carmella Colangelo Bonitatibus. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in Bridgeport in 1958. After receiving a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University, Marge was chosen to be a student at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada in her senior year. She worked as a special education teacher in Bridgeport and Trumbull, and then as part time teacher at St. Stephen’s and St. Jude RC Elementary School. Later on in her career she earned a paralegal degree from Sacred Heart University and went on to retire as the Chief Clerk of the Trumbull Probate Court.
In her spare time, Marge was also active at both St. Stephen’s and St. Jude’s churches and even served as the organizer of the St. Jude Italian Festival and co-chairperson for the fundraiser for the new St. Jude church. She was also a five term president of the Monroe Historical Society and was involved with the Monroe Scholarship Fund. Among her accolades, she was also recognized as the “Outstanding Young Woman” of 1974 and in 1996 Marge was picked as a “Woman of Substance” by the Connecticut Post.
Margaret was predeceased by her sisters, Antoinette O’Malley and Patricia Bonitatibus. Besides her beloved husband Bob, she is survived by her godson Kevin Auslander of NC, and her loving and supportive nieces and nephews: Fedela and Dr. Frank Kessler of NY, Derek and Kim Johnson Tranzillo of NY, Tyler and Amy Hare Tranzillo of CT, Dawn Tranzillo Auslander of CT; as well as her 19 grandnephews and grandnieces and 13 great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.
Marge’s family would like to thank Father Joseph Gill, Monsignor John Sabia, and Father Skip Karcinski; along with Deacon Tim Bolton, Sister Nancy and Father Joe, SJ. They would also like to give a special thanks to Marge’s longtime doctors and all of the doctors, technicians, and especially the nurses of St. Vincent’s ICU department, who provided her with professional and compassionate care.
Friends are invited to calling hours Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 4-8 p.m. at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Monday, December 11 at 9:30 am, at St. Jude Parish, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. Interment to immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 1056 Daniels Farm Road,Trumbull, CT.
