Born on March 14, 1961, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Mark was the beloved son of the late James and Margaret Stapleton. He grew up in Bridgeport and attended Beardsley School, Fairfield Country Day School, and Fairfield Preparatory School. He earned his bachelor’s
degree from Fairfield University and his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford.
Mark devoted his career to mental health, where he was passionate about helping others, particularly those in underserved communities. His compassion and dedication touched countless lives. He believed everyone deserved to be heard, and treated with dignity—a philosophy that guided both his career and the way he lived his life. Throughout his life, Mark was known for his quiet kindness, generosity, patience, and wonderful sense of humor. Whether walking his dog, working around the house, or simply spending time with family and friends, he found joy in life’s simple moments. Above all, Mark was a devoted father whose greatest source of pride was watching his children, Caitlin and Kevin, grow into the remarkable adults they are today. He especially cherished holidays, family gatherings, and creating lasting memories with those he loved. The arrival of his grandson, Thomas Jacob (“TJ”), brought him immeasurable joy. For more than 50 years, he looked forward to spending summers with his extended family at Meadow Point on Lake George, a tradition that brought him true happiness.
Mark will be remembered as an incredible listener, a loyal friend, and someone who made others feel heard and valued. Those who knew him will also remember his humility, his ability to laugh at himself, and the warmth and comfort he brought to those around him. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Marcela Stapleton; his daughter, Caitlin Carroll (Tommy); his son, Kevin Stapleton his cherished grandson, Thomas Jacob Carroll (“TJ”); his brothers, James “Jim” Stapleton Jr.(Debra) and Paul Stapleton; his sister, Kathleen Schultz; and many beloved nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, James and Margaret Stapleton, Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Stapleton. Family and friends are invited to attend a wake on Sunday, July 12, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home. Though Mark is no longer with us, his love, wisdom, and the countless memories he shared with those who knew him will live on forever. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
