She was a devoted wife of 63 years to the late Andrew J Gombar. She was born in Czechoslovakia to the late Anna and John Vasko September 5th 1921. Together with her parents she immigrated to America through Ellis Island at the age of 8 to build their American dream.
Mary was one in a million and had that uncanny ability to light up a room with her genuine kindness. She made everyone around her feel welcome and had a unique ability to make you feel as if you were wearing a warm blanket with every hug or conversation you had with her. She got the greatest joy spending time with her loved ones and was blessed to see the birth of 10 great-grandchildren. They will all surely miss her squeezes and hugs. She loved to crochet and travel and was an avid reader and gardener. In her younger years she was active in the Monroe Senior Center and St. Jude’s Church. Mary will truly be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her son Richard (Carol) Gombar of Monroe, and daughter Beverly Beckett-Meier (Rich) of Guilford. She also cherished 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary was pre-deceased by her 3 sisters Helen Grunik, Ann Muller and Betty Jean Zynko.
Friends may call at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe CT 06468 on Jan 21 between the hours of 4 and 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Jan 22 at St. Jude’s church in Monroe.
