Matthew was born August 7th, 1998, in Hackensack, NJ to proud parents Natasha and Pat Chipdey. He was their second oldest child, following his big sister Katie and baby sisters Lauren and Amanda. Matt graduated Masuk High School in 2016 and UConn as a Biomedical Engineer in 2020 with a lot of Panther and Husky pride. After graduation he started to work in R&D at companies like Cook Medical and Medtronic where he always said, more than anything, he hoped his work was impacting others’ health and lives positively.
From a young age, Matt was considered a goofy happy soul. He clapped when he walked (and always on his tippy toes), smiled with dimples no matter what, had a fact for everything (and if he didn't, he’d make one up), and had a penchant for life with his family. He learned how to throw a ball with his father, ski with his mother, play in the dirt and in imaginary worlds with his older sister. He would tease his little sisters endlessly while making sure they were well cultured and could build a satisfactory Minecraft world.
He loved sports, but especially football and basketball, and would always have a quick clever take on every play with his friends and dad. He loved to play video games and have a midnight snack with his sisters, and would hate for us to not mention how ‘nasty’ he was at COD. He loved cars and always hoped to own a Porsche one day. He loved his dog Duke, or Dookiepookie, who Matt rescued.
Matt will be remembered for the smile he was always able to coax out of others, but also give, even in his darkest moments. For how hard he worked, and how genuine and sincere he was about anything he was tasked with or took on. For the impact he had on everyone who came across him. For his love for his family and friends. And for being a dearly beloved friend and part of the Chipdey family.
He is survived by his grandmothers, Sumita Chipdey and Ivanka Cernilec. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Sharad Chipdey and Anton Cernilec.
We will be remembering Matt on Saturday, October 11th from 10am-12pm at Spadaccino & Leo P. Gallagher Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT 06468.
