Melissa J. Halasz

Born in Bridgeport on March 5, 1946, Melissa was the daughter of the late Peter and Jennie Chopsky. She grew up in Bridgeport, attended local schools, and went on to graduate from the University of Bridgeport. On August 25, 1973, she married the love of her life, Gerald Halasz, at St. George’s Church in Bridgeport.

Melissa dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching, primarily at Beardsley School in Bridgeport. She touched countless young lives with her kindness, patience, and passion for education

A woman of deep faith, Melissa was a longtime member of North Park Baptist Church, where she joyfully sang in the choir and participated in the Ladies’ Bible Study group. Her faith, generosity, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.

Melissa is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Gerald Halasz; her sister, Susan Upton; her niece, Laura Upton, and nephews Robert Upton and John Upton. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Jennie. Friends are invited to gather for the visitation on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. A funeral service will be held the followings day, Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
