

Mildred Blight Chase, age 97, of Stepney, wife of the late Ernest D. Chase, passed away peacefully at home on March 2, 2016 surrounded by her family. Millie was born in Bridgeport and lived in Stepney since 1947. Over the years she and her husband acquired land including Rocledge Farm where they raised their children and numerous farm animals and pets.
Millie was the daughter of the late Howard and Elsie Blight and sister to the late Elsie Williams (wife of the late Dr. Francis William) and Roger Blight. She was a graduate of Weylister Jr. College and worked as a bookkeeper at Gelatly Construction Company.
As an active member of the United Methodist Church of Monroe, Millie served on various church committees and was a long time member of the Friendship Circle. Over the years Millie stayed active taking walks, swimming and bowling. Her hobbies included: knitting, travel, needlework, reading, playing the organ and baking her famous molasses cookies. Millie filled many summer days picking, arranging and selling farm fresh cut flowers with her daughter Kate. She volunteered at Bridgeport Hospital and Fairfield Hills Hospital. Millie was also a member of the Masonic family at the Lady Martha Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She spent winters with her friends in Stuart, Florida where she was a member of the Stuart Congregational Church.
She is survived by her children: Louise Thurston and her husband Kimball of Concord MA; Clinton Chase and his wife Rosemary, Millicent Krisak and her husband Joel, Katherine Chase and her wife Arlene Spoonfeather, all of Stepney. She was the grandmother of seven grandchildren: Kimball and John Thurston; Clinton, Jacob and Gary Chase; and Melissa and Brian Krisak . She was Great Grandmother to Oliver, Jia and Henry Chase and Kierra Krisak. She also leaves her close friends and neighbors Dotti and Lee Hossler.
Millie’s last days were made more comfortable by the kind, efficient and compassionate efforts of the many caregivers at Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, as well as, her personal caregiver, Sibusisiwe (Lucy) Gadhlula.
A funeral service will be held on March 5, 2016 at the United Methodist Church of Monroe at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Monroe, 515 Cutlers Farm Road, Monroe, CT 06468.
