Born in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of Fior and Jose A. Astacio. She graduated from Adlai E. Stevenson High School, in the Bronx and received her Associate Degree from LaGuardia Community College, and Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. She was employed at Franchise World Headquarters, aka Subway, and worked as a Payroll Specialist. She was also a member of New Life Church.
From an early age she developed a great passion for the arts. She was a part of New York City’s All City High School Marching Band, where she played the flute. She enjoyed taking, and editing pictures of her relatives, and the beauty of nature. She took a cosmetology class, because she wanted to help survivors feel beautiful. She enjoyed painting with her kids. Most recently, she learned how to crochet, so she could make lasting pieces for her family and friends. One of her final projects was crocheting “worry worms” so fellow cancer patients could keep calm during their infusions.
She is survived by her loving husband Norberto Vega III, daughter Arianna Astacio, son Isaiah Nathaniel Vega, siblings Elizabeth Santos, Lucenia Tejada, and Jose M. Astacio, her parents and many nieces and nephews.
Nikol was beautiful, funny, loving, bold, loyal, and brave. She was a warrior and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
