Born on January 26, 1946 to his parents Marie and Anthony, "Rich" called Bridgeport and the surrounding areas of Trumbull and Monroe home his entire life. Graduating both local, Notre Dame High School and Sacred Heart University. Drafted in 1967, Rich joined the Connecticut National Guard, serving weekends and summers while also working as a salesperson for Moore Business Forms.
In 1971, Rich married Jean Hungerford and they proceeded to grow their love and family with sons, Richard and Craig. Therein, Rich embarked on a full time rewarding career with the U.S. Military achieving rank of Master Sergeant of the CT National Guard in Norwalk and finally with the 1109th division AVCRAD based in Groton which serviced military helicopters. Rich lived his life with dedication. He was dedicated to his country, his family, and his faith. A true patriot even in retirement he continued to follow politics deeply and honor America with unwavering gratitude and respect.
Dedicated to his family, he consistently provided a stable home, home cooked meals and sound advice in uncertain times for his sons, family, and friends. He criss crossed this beautiful nation on his beloved Amtrak train countless times armed with his National Parks pass, sense of adventure and hours of conversation. He was as comfortable presiding over a campfire as he was over the dining room table.
Perhaps overarching in his life was Rich's dedication to his faith and the Catholic Church. From an early age, Rich found peace and comfort within the arms of God and Catholicism. He grew from young alter boy to wisened Eucharistic Minister over the years - never doubting, but always forgiving and loving, role modeling God's grace.
There are many ways to honor the legacy of our Dad, our Grandpa, our Big Rich, but our favorite is to hold hands around a big pot of pasta and sauce and sing out Amen / Hallelujah.
Rich is survived by his oldest son, Richard; youngest son, Craig, his wife Vicki and their three children Seneca, Abel, and Bode. He is also survived by his younger brother, Tony, his wife Joice and niece Andrea and Erica.
