

Richard Thomas Ryan, longtime resident of Berlin, NJ, and recently of Newtown, CT, died peacefully on July 03, 2016 at the age of 83. Born on February 23, 1933 in Utica, NY, Richard is the son of the late Clarence and Gertrude Ryan. Richard is survived by his brother William Edward Ryan. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Henrietta Ryan; his sisters Catherine Irene (Ryan) Darby and Elizabeth Jane (Ryan) Hodge; and his brothers Clarence James Ryan, and Donald Francis Ryan. As a young man, Richard displayed a natural talent for pitching and was briefly scouted by Major League Baseball. In early adulthood, he enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Policeman and served in the European Theater with a posting in Austria. He followed his military service with a career at Pitney Bowes Inc. and retired from the company with 46 years of service. His extended family and friends remember Richard as funny, friendly, and eternally optimistic. He was a loyal and dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. But he will be best remembered as a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Henrietta. A funeral is scheduled for 11 AM on July 14 at Spadaccino and Leo Gallagher and Son Co Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe, CT. A wake will precede the service at 10 AM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Richard’s life. A burial service will be held on 16 July at 10 AM at St Joseph Cemetery, 1427 Champlin Ave, Utica, NY.
