Born in 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, Ron was the third son of a humble family. Despite modest beginnings, he was known for his kindness, striking good looks, and athletic prowess, earning his nickname for his wrestling skills in high school.
After graduating, Ron was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea, where his exceptional typing skills earned him the rank of corporal. During a leave from service, he married Ruth Elizabeth Cohn, a beautiful woman and the love of his life. Their marriage spanned an incredible 65 years until Ruth’s passing in 2018. Ron’s devotion to Ruth was unwavering, especially during her final years when he cared for her with extraordinary tenderness.
Ron was a trailblazer in fatherhood, embracing the role of a "hands-on" dad long before it became a cultural norm. He poured immense love and affection into the lives of his four children—Sharyn (and husband Larry, deceased), Bruce (and wife Angela), Lisa (and husband Gil), and Wayne (and wife Jan). His unwavering support and warmth created a foundation of love that his children will always cherish. As a grandfather to ten—Andy (and wife Sarah), Tracey (and husband Nate), Paul (and wife Amanda), Marc, John (and wife Bianca), Jake, Brett, Hayden, Maddie, and Alex—and great-grandfather to seven—Ruben, Anna, Jonah, Aaron, Liev, Jeremy, and Omri—Ron continued to share his boundless sense of humor and joy with each generation.
Ron had a gift for creating magical moments, such as telling imaginative stories featuring characters like "Slurp and McGlurp" and "Chooch and Pachooch," sparking creativity and laughter. One beloved family tradition involved Ron’s well-worn t-shirts being playfully torn apart, while he humorously proclaimed that he suddenly felt "chilly." These joyful moments became treasured memories that will be fondly remembered by all who shared them.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Ron’s passion for athletics was contagious. He was a devoted fan of the Mets, Giants, and New York Islanders—a love he passed down to his children and grandchildren. Whether cheering on his favorite teams or sharing his enthusiasm for sports with those around him, Ron’s energy and spirit were infectious.
Above all else, Ron’s heart belonged to his family. His warmth, sense of humor, and emotional generosity left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by those whose lives he touched.
May Ron Friedman’s memory be a blessing to all who mourn him.
A graveside service for Ronald will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Beth Moses Cemetery, 1500 Wellwood Ave, West Babylon, NY 11704.
