Born in Sharon, Connecticut, she was the daughter of Alvin and Helen Duncan. She grew up in the Dover Plains New York State area, where she attended the local school system. She was employed in the Danbury, CT area by Bard Parker and National Semiconductor as a Quality Control Technician, which she eventually retired from in the 1990s.
In 1948, she wed John Stowe Sr.; they then relocated to Monroe, where Virginia remained for 77 years, even after John’s passing in 1982.
One of her greatest passions was her love for flowers and gardening, constantly maintaining grounds to her level of satisfaction. She simply loved the outdoors. Virginia was truly a die-hard UCONN girls’ basketball fan that hardly ever missed a game that was televised. She enjoyed attending the local Bingo halls with family and friends, including occasional trips to casino halls. She loved country music, attending concerts and listening to her mass collection of records and tapes. She took frequent drives with friends and relatives into the Hunter Mountain area and Vermont.
She had a very big interest in collections of different things; One favorite was her collection of Red Cardinals, which were throughout her home. She also had Spoon collections, Glass Bell collections, and many different Floral plate set collections. Not to forget her lifelong collection of matchbooks.
She enjoyed her many vacation trips throughout the US, including Hawaii with her oldest daughter Barbara and husband Dan.
She will always be remembered for her general love and caring for people. People that met our mother would always compliment what a very nice and kind person she was. If any one of her 3 children brought someone home to meet her, they then had a friend for life. When any of us went into a local grocery store, hardware store, bank, or pharmacy, the first question was, “how is your mother? What a nice person.”
She is survived by her 3 children: Barbara Bachman and husband Dan Bachman, John Stowe Jr. (Chipper) and wife JoAnne Stowe and Nancy Faroux. Grandchildren Melissa Richards and Harry Faroux and great-grandchild Kenna McEwan. She was predeceased by her husband John H. Stowe Sr., and grandson Michael Bachman.
