Alanson Kidder Curtis, Jr., 93 peacefully passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday November 6, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. on the dot, or “high noon” as it’s famously referenced in our family, in Monroe, WA. Our beloved Dad/Papa/Pop/ Pops/Gramps has been reunited with his bride in Heaven.
Alan was born on September 26, 1925 in Bryant, Washington to Alanson Kidder, Sr. and Esther Curtis. In June of 1944 he married Shirley Rae Peterson and at the time of Shirley’s passing in March of 2014 their love story had spanned just shy of 70 years of marriage.
Alan has two siblings; brother George Curtis from Port Orchard, WA who preceded him in death and a living sister Shirl Hall, 95 of Marysville WA.
Alan and Shirley had two sons that preceded them in death and one living son. Their eldest son, Lanny Curtis passed in December of 1988. Lanny was previously married to Ann Cassida Sorenson. Ann and her husband Jerry Sorenson reside in Snohomish, WA. Their middle son, Don Sward passed in April of 2018. Their youngest and only living son Greg Curtis, and wife Cathy Knutsen Curtis reside in Snohomish, WA.
Alan and Shirley have many surviving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren. Lanny’s and Ann’s family: Wendi Warren and husband Dan; their children Sawyer and Bety. Troy Curtis and wife Janell; children Tyler, Tanner, and Emily. Angie Clark and husband Chip; their children Sammi and Jen, Alex and Kayla, Adrian, and Hip. Tiffany Proctor and husband Chad; daughter Kennady. Cameron Keefe and wife Becky; their children Olivia and Sofia. Son Greg and Cathy’s family: Marcie Curtis-Faaborg; and her children Chelsea and Andrea, Jake and Anna (Lucy and Calvin, great-great grandchildren). Tim Curtis and former wife Logina Parente and their son, Sam. Ben Curtis and wife Kris; children Derek and Cassie.
In 1944 Alan joined the Army Air Corp, was stationed in the South Pacific as a B-24 Top Gunner.. Following his military career he began working for the Scott Paper Company where he worked until retiring in the early 1980’s. Both Alan and Shirley spent many years of retirement being very active in the Snohomish and Sultan communities and churches, traveling as snowbirds, and in his later years active in the Monroe Merrill Gardens/Brookdale Care Center community.
Our family wishes to extend our appreciation to Pop’s friends Sue and Vicky from Brookdale, these two ladies were bright spots in his life, Dr. Mark Raney for years and years of wonderful care, and to Evergreen Health of Monroe with special thanks to the staff in the Emergency Department and MSTU Department with extra special acknowledgement to Nurse Nancy for the tender care she provided to our Pop.
Memorial arrangements are being coordinated by Purdy& Kerr with Dawson of Monroe Washington., services will be held at the Monroe First Baptist Church 17922 149th St SE, Monroe, WA 98272 on Sunday December 2nd at 1 p.m.
