Brian was born on June 12, 1997, in Monroe, Washington, to Todd and Theresa Wiens. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Brian was a big man with an even bigger heart. He could be rough around the edges on the outside, with a witty and sarcastic sense of humor that could catch you off guard, but those who knew him best knew that underneath it all was one of the sweetest and most caring people you could ever meet. Brian was incredibly smart and had a sharp, intellectual wit. He had a particular passion for history, especially World War II, and could share an impressive amount of knowledge about the people, events, weapons, and stories of the time. He was naturally curious and enjoyed learning how things worked, whether he was studying history, building his own computers, or working on his firearms. His quick mind and sarcastic humor were a big part of what made Brian, Brian. He loved his family fiercely and was always looking out for the people he loved.
That protective nature started when Brian was just a child. He would patrol the house dressed in his little army fatigues, taking his job very seriously and making sure everything was safe. He was known to run out of the bushes on his own little missions to protect his family. That same protective heart stayed with him throughout his life.
For the last five years, Brian worked alongside his dad, Todd, in the tractor parts department at Scholten’s Equipment in Burlington. Getting to work in the same department with his dad was a special part of their relationship and something their family will always remember.
Brian loved the simple things in life: sleeping in, eating really good food, and spending time with the things he enjoyed. He was an avid gun collector and even built some of his own firearms. One of his favorites was his M1 Garand, a piece of history dating back to World War II. His love of history made the M1 Garand especially meaningful to him. Most of all, though, Brian loved his family.
He is survived by his parents, Todd and Theresa Wiens; his sister, Katelyn Wiens (Ben Richter); and his nephew, Luke Richter; along with many other aunts, uncles, cousins, coworkers, and friends who loved him dearly.
Brian leaves behind a hole in his family that can never be filled. We will remember his big heart, his protective nature, his quick wit and sarcastic humor, his incredible mind, and the love he showed in his own unique way.
We like to imagine that Brian is now somewhere peaceful, eating some really good pasta or tiramisu, getting the sleep he always loved, and heading out to the shooting range in heaven.
Brian, you were loved more than you knew, and you will be missed more than words can say.
