

David was born January 25, 1950, in Oakland, CA to Angelo and Margie Mulla. Being born into a Navy family they lived all over the United States but finally settled in Houston, Texas. David attended Regan High School, where he played cornerback on the football team. After high school he attended college in Houston to be a Dentist until he was drafted into the US Army in March of 1970. He was a member of the first cavalry division K9 tracker team. He fought honorably with his German Shepherd Nicodemus until returning home in January of 1972. After his return from Vietnam, he worked various jobs and helped his father on their family farm in Joaquin, Texas. He met his wife Donna in 1978, married her 1979 and started their family soon after. They relocated to Vancouver, Washington in 1989 where David worked as a heavy equipment operator with Nutter Construction and Kerr Contractors until his retirement in 2005. David and Donna moved to Snohomish in 2015 to be closer to their daughter Kristi and her family.
Among the many things David enjoyed, was cooking and barbecuing. David was fond of the outdoors taking his family on many camping trips, where he could always be found tending to a fire pit. He was an excellent swimmer and in his younger years enjoyed surfing. He also enjoyed gardening, western movies, reading, and watching The History Channel. He loved to watch football, mostly with his family. He enjoyed fishing with his grandkids. He was a very supportive dad and papa and attended as many of their sporting events, competitions, and cow shows as much as possible.
David is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Donna, daughters Kristi Hartzell (husband Andrew) and Kerri Hersel (husband Tyler), sisters Margaret Bowden and Terri Grey, and grandchildren Hailey, Hannah, Jaydon, Delaney, and Kilynn. A Funeral Mass honoring David’s life will be held on March 14th, 11am at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, 26526 NE Cherry Valley Rd., Duvall, WA. Memorial donations in his name may be made to K9s for Warriors.
