Center in Monroe, WA.
Mom was born April 5th, 1926 in Salem, OR to Ernest Richard “Dick” and Jessie (Gibson) Sorensen. At the age of 2, following the death of her mother, she and her brother Ernest “Sam”, moved to Monroe, WA where they were raised by their loving grandparents, Isaac and Maggie Gibson. Growing up in Monroe, Mom attended local schools and the Monroe Methodist Church. She made lifelong friends at Monroe High School (Class of ’44) where she was a Bearcat cheerleader and Snohomish County First Singles Tennis Champion. She worked at the White Spot Restaurant and the original Safeway.
In 1944, she married the love of her life, Anton “Pink” Marty, one of the “Duvall boys”, and celebrated 75 years of marriage in 2019. Their home was on the Marty farm in Duvall, where they raised their family. They loved motorhome camping trips with family and friends, fun times in Anaheim with “Gramps” (Mom’s dad), and an amazing family reunion in Switzerland. Mom loved getting together for “coffee” in town and her favorite times were spent at endless home gatherings and celebrations with family & friends.
Family was everything to Mom. She taught us to work hard, play hard, be thrifty, use common sense, be loyal, always do your best, never give up, forgive and “do unto others.…”. She led by her spirited example and endless love. Mom was an amazing cook and loved her flowers. She could tap dance, jitterbug, polka, roller skate, ice skate, hula hoop, baton twirl, and at age 86, was jump roping Double Dutch with her grand/great-grandkids and standing on her head! At 90, she pressure-washed the patio roof and repelled down the bank to weed eat…there was NO stopping her! She loved her part-time jobs at the local Duvall coffee shops and Duvall Hardware. Mom was a member of Tolt Boosters Club, the Senior Center of Monroe & Carnation, Cherry Valley School Reunion Committee and member & treasurer of the Monroe Swiss Club.
Mom is survived by her children Mike (Marilyn) of Duvall, Larry (Teri, life partner) of Snohomish, Darlene Thorpe (Brian) of Monroe, Deb Lawson (Tom) of Duvall and Roger (Patti) of Ormond Beach, FL. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pink, son Walter, parents Ernest (Dick) & Jessie Sorensen, brother Ernest (Sam) Sorensen, daughter-in-law Kathy, beloved Vern and Ann & Gib George, her favorite aunt & uncle.
The family wishes to acknowledge and give heartfelt thanks to all of Mom’s caring angels at Regency Care Center in Monroe…she loved you all.
