March 9, 1952-April 24, 2025
With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Gayle Marie Knisley, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Gayle passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on March 9, 1952, in Monroe, Washington, Gayle lived a life rooted in kindness, grace, and quiet strength. Her gentle spirit, warm heart, and steady presence left a lasting mark on all who knew her.
Gayle is survived by her loving husband, Jim Knisley; her children, James Knisley (Becky) and Mandi (Steve) Laurent (née Knisley); and her grandchildren, Ellie, Kate and Wyatt. She is also survived by her brothers, Ed Hurst (Cheri) and Gordon Hurst (Bev), her sister, Sue Hurst; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille and Lloyd Hurst, sister Carol, and brother Larry.
Gayle began her career as a school bus driver, a role she chose so she could align her schedule with her children’s school day. She later advanced into leadership positions as a supervisor, dispatcher, driver trainer and router. She eventually continued her work with the Snohomish School District, where she brought her same warmth, dedication, and care.
What made Gayle truly special was the way she gave of herself so selflessly to others. Throughout her life, she devoted hundreds of volunteer hours to her children’s activities and her community. Alongside her husband Jim, she was a 4-H motorcycle leader, coached youth teams, and played an active role in school events and fundraising, including for her children’s senior trips. Perhaps most inspiring, she helped raise thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life- encouraging many friends and family to join the cause, years before cancer would personally touch her life. She had a huge heart and a giving spirit, and she passed on those values to her children, serving as an enduring role model.
Gayle also found deep joy in the simple and beautiful moments of life- gardening, canning and baking with her grandchildren, playing cards, traveling, scrapbooking and crafting, enjoying scenic mountain drives with her son and family, and taking peaceful walks in nature.
Gayle will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
