Lucille P. (Altenbach) Assad, 87, of Snohomish County, WA, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Lucille was born in Bethlehem, PA, on January 26, 1938 to Carl and Lucie (Reynolds) Altenbach. She was a graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1956.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, David Assad; her daughter Karen (Assad) LaVelle and son-in-law M. Scott LaVelle; her grandchildren Dylan, Sierra, and Meghan LaVelle; and her great-grandchild Alexander Wright. She is predeceased by her younger sister of eight years, Patricia (Altenbach) Fatzinger, who passed away a month prior on their shared birthday.
Lucille and David met briefly at the car dealership he worked at and then, two years later, met again while dancing and have been together ever since- getting married on September 29, 1963. They continued to share their love of dancing throughout their younger years as well as road tripping and sharing fond memories and laughter with friends.
Lucille lived much of her life in the Lehigh Valley before moving to Washington State in 2008 with David to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She spent her time supporting her grandchildren’s passions, traveling to various karate and baseball events and other such endeavors. In addition to being an amazing mother, she was also a best friend to her daughter Karen; spending hours on the phone and spending many days exploring the local sights with Karen and other family members.
Lucille’s love of music and animals was notable to anyone who knew her- always having the radio on and donating both time and money to environmental groups. She had a particular love of wolves and huskies, speaking fondly of her past dogs so often, her husband quipped that if he were to be reincarnated, he would want to come back as her dog. She was also an avid fan of Gonzaga basketball, watching every game on tv with David to the end.
While always able to make new friends, Lucille cherished her lifelong friends she had known since early childhood. Her kind nature and humor are remembered fondly by many. Her family asks that, in lieu of flowers, well-wishers make a donation to their local animal shelter or an environmental group in her honor.
