Marlene Rose (Wall) York, 89, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born January 5, 1936, at Monroe Hospital to Irvin and Belle Wall, Marlene lived her entire life in Monroe, where her faith and kindness touched countless hearts.
On July 22, 1955, Marlene married Don York of Sultan, and they shared nearly 70 years of marriage, a milestone they would have celebrated this July. She is survived by her beloved husband, Don; sons Dave (Jodi) York and Steve (Carri) York; four granddaughters; three grandsons; three great-granddaughters; 11 great-grandsons; sister Mabel (Jerry) Ternes; brother Mike (Dodi) Wall; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol (Wall) Porter, brother Leslie Wall, and daughter-in-law Roxanne York (former wife of Steve).
Marlene’s deep faith guided her service at Mennonite Country Church, Monroe Community Chapel, First Baptist Church in Monroe and Grace Fellowship in Sultan. She worked as a secretary at Monroe High School, Weyerhaeuser in Everett, Milady’s Clothing Store, and Monroe Cold Storage, but was best known for Azalea Hills Nursery, which she and Don owned and operated at their Old Owen Road home. Marlene’s warmth shone through hosting family reunions and, most memorably, over 40 years of Easter Egg Hunts for children of family and friends.
Marlene’s love and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on July 2nd, 1 PM at the Grace Fellowship Church, 915 Sultan Basin Road, Sultan WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her cherished charity, Pregnancy Resource Center of Snohomish County (contact details at their website).
