His life was surrounded by love and adventures with Dad/Mom/Sister, doting Grandparents and other extended family. Interests included music, camping, fishing, Boy Scouts, football, critters, drawing, and creating with his hands. This naturally turned into a talented career of contracting and property maintenance, creating innovative and unique homescapes for anyone interested in a fresh look at their house and properties. This included his own home makeover as well.
He was known for his big blue truck “The Patriot” with an obnoxious yellow dog in the back, music, talk radio or Seahawks blaring, the scent of a cigar, and drinking a grande mocha. Matt made the rounds speaking life (Toby Mac!) and encouraging-especially with humor-trying to build hope in those he encountered. He was always a listening ear willing to engage, debate, help, pray and care.
Matt was a fierce patriot with pride for the American flag and founding principles of the USA.
Above all, Matthew was a man with a big heart, strong faith and abiding love for the Lord.
“No guilt in life, no fear in death this is the power of Christ in me,
From lifes first cry, til final breath, Jesus commands my destiny” (Newsboys)
He left us way too soon, but we know he woke up in Heaven, welcomed by loved ones.
All things have been made new. His stress is gone and he is experiencing his verse: Hebrews 11:1-crack your Bible and check it out...
He is survived by his Mom, Mary, Sister DawnMarie (Buck) Smith,
loving Aunts/Uncles, numerous cousins, other extended family and his friends, who were family.
Matt’s family appreciates your thoughts, prayers, memories and support.
A family graveside ceremony was held on Friday, January 22nd at 1PM at Sultan Cemetery. A celebration of Matthew's life for family and friends will be held at First Baptist Church in Monroe on Saturday, February 20th, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. They are located at 17922 - 149th St. SE in Monroe.
