Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed and jointed the tumbling
Mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of: wheeled and soared and
Swung high in the sunlit silence.
Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung
my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace
where never lark or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space
put out my hand and touched the face of God.
Michael Marion Dunton left this earth to his eternal home Monday July 14, 2025. Michael "Mike" was born November 27, 1954 in Woodland California and lived in South San Francisco until he graduated from South San Francisco high school and moved with his mother to Snohomish Washington to care for her mother Sophia Rock. He soon settled on adjacent family property where he made his lifelong home and raised his family.
Mike is survived by his daughter Charmaine Hodge (Don Hodge) and step-daughter Tessalee "Tessy" Synder, her five children and two grandchildren. Mike, born the youngest of five, is survived by his sisters Dolly Gibson, Gloria Van Tassel (Gary Van Tassel), Maggie Dunton (Skip Kernaghan) and brother Edward Dunton. He is preceded in death by his wife Dequita "Dee" Maydine Kauinoheaonalani Dunton and parents Howard and Vivian Dunton.
Mike had many jobs throughout his life from roofing to masonry work, cabinet making and even a stint at the Snohomish County dump. He was never one to sit still for very long. Mike was a shy yet charming man with a little goofy and ornery all mixed in. He had a born creativity that fueled the need to build or customize all things he came across whether they needed it or not. He never had fewer than a dozen projects going on at once, easily becoming distracted by the next interesting thing. He will be missed.
In lieu of formal service a small family gathering will be held to spread Mike's ashes on the property where he spent most of his life and where his legacy lives on with his daughter and her family.
