

Naomi Phillips, age 98, died peacefully on October 13, 2014 at Regency Care Center in Monroe, Washington. She was a long time resident of Jones Mill, Arkansas and Hot Springs, Arkansas before moving to Monroe in 2009. Naomi was born August 22, 1916 in Gallatin, Texas to Lucien Cletus Powell and Henrietta Cochran Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children Charles W. Phillips (1912-1972), second husband Charles’ brother Cecil Phillips (1904-1995), daughter Anna Jean Elrod (1941-2009), and step-daughter Mary Sue (Phillips) Harris (1927-2010). Naomi was also preceded in death by her half-sisters, Flossie (Millstead) Lisenby and Hattie (Millstead) Reed…half-brothers, Bill Millstead and Bart Millstead…and brothers, Benjamin M. Powell and Lucien C. (Pete) Powell.
Naomi is survived by her son, Powell E. Phillips Sr.…two step-daughters, Kathryn (Phillips) Sanders and Cecilia (Phillips) Duren…four grandchildren, Tami (Elrod) Cash, David Elrod, Powell E. Phillips Jr., and Melissa (Phillips) Maxson…four step-grandchildren, John Harris, Gary Sanders, Kim (Duren) Senteney, and Dan Duren…great-grandchildren…and great-great-grandchildren.
Naomi was a charter member of Shorewood Hills Methodist Church in Jones Mill, Arkansas…and after marrying Cecil Phillips, became an active member of Park Place Baptist Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and received her 50 year pen in 1996. She had a smile for all and she was always happy.
