Diane and family, I was a ST (Sonarman) and when USS Hamner was in the yards at Hunters Point Sam and I got acquainted. Both of us were ham radio operators, I was K7WPC. I had a car, one of the few guys that did, and Sam and I went for a drive around the bay area. Memories are foggy but we ended up at an old abandoned house out in the country, whoever moved out of there had left a super nice looking stereo receiver and we gave it a new home! Coming back from WestPac Sam and I were able to run Phone Patches using the Ships Radio to family back in the States. Sam was a great guy, I am sorry for your loss.

The one word that I kept hearing after Sam's funeral was "kind". Person after person told me , "He was so kind", "...so caring", ...so ready to help".
No one knows better than me how true those words are.
Thank you for all your stories of his kindness. Sam was never one to "blow his own horn". I never knew how far his kindness spread...
I am grateful to know you valued him as I still do. Diane

Message from Sam's sister Bonny. Sam was a good man with a big heart. My brother didn’t like to be the centre of attention, but he worked tirelessly and quietly, away from the public eye. He helped people not for popularity or self-promotion. He just truly loved helping people and making a difference in their lives. We lost an angel here on earth when we lost my brother. May God bless you and your family with the strength to bear the difficult days ahead.
I am so sorry I can't come as I have just had eye surgery and can't fly. I have order flowers for the Mass. Bonny Baker, Georgetown, Texas.
