Searle R. Vermedal, born November 25, 1938 in Hampton, IA, passed away on April 30, 2014 in Everett, WA. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force. Searle owned and operated the Hitching Post Cafe in Monroe for many years, where he and his wife Zilda especially enjoyed serving people. He also enjoyed getting together with all his American and Brazilian family and friends. His trips to Brazil were his most recent pleasure where he enjoyed the people and going to the beaches and beautiful rivers there.
He cared deeply for his children and spoke of them frequently and lovingly. He loved his dogs, playing cards and the dominos he played with grandkids in Brazil.
He is survived by his loving wife Zilda, sons Daniel Vermedal (Kim) and Aaron Hann (Barbara), daughter Meloney Nunes (Ray), step-son Michael Day, step-daughter Margaret Day-Bangs (Pat), and many extended family and friends. A memorial service honoring Searle’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 11am at Purdy & Kerr with Dawson Funeral Home, 409 W Main St., Monroe, 360-794-7049.
