85 Years of a Life Well Lived

Austin Guevarra Baul, fondly known to family and friends as “Uncle Boy,” lived a remarkable life marked by intellectual excellence, steadfast leadership, unwavering patriotism, and deep devotion to family. His life was a testament to perseverance, wisdom, service, and faith.

Born on December 19, 1940, Austin was the eighth child and one of only two brothers among the eleven children of Faustino Baul, Sr. and Nicolasa Guevarra Baul. Raised in a close-knit family, he carried with him throughout his life the values of integrity, hard work, respect, and love for family.

He pursued his education at Tarlac High School and later at the Mapúa Institute of Technology, where he cultivated his passion for engineering and lifelong learning. He successfully passed the Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering qualifying examinations, demonstrating his exceptional analytical mind and technical aptitude. His remarkable intellect later led him to become a top board passer in the field of Realty and Trading Business.

Austin’s professional accomplishments extended beyond engineering. He became a respected legal consultant, a trusted adviser, and an accomplished community leader. For six years, he served with distinction as President and Executive Director of the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA), where he dedicated himself to advancing the welfare of the Filipino-American community and strengthening cultural pride and civic engagement.

A true Renaissance man, Austin possessed an insatiable curiosity and an extraordinary love for knowledge. He was a voracious reader whose interests spanned history, politics, law, science, philosophy, literature, and world affairs. His keen understanding of both Philippine and American politics earned him the admiration of many who valued his thoughtful insights and balanced perspectives.

Gifted with exceptional eloquence, Austin was a gifted speechwriter and a poet at heart. His words inspired, encouraged, and challenged others to think deeply and act wisely. Friends and family admired not only his brilliant mind but also his generosity in sharing his knowledge and mentoring those around him.

Above all, Austin cherished his family. On May 19, 2023, during one of his treasured conversations with loved ones, he fondly reminisced about his parents and lovingly recalled each of his brothers and sisters - a reflection of the deep bond he held with the family that shaped his life.

In early July 2026, Austin entered the hospital in good spirits and with remarkable physical strength for what was expected to be a routine medical evaluation. Unexpectedly, he suffered a sudden medical emergency, briefly collapsed, was revived, and remained bedridden beginning July 8, 2026. Despite the courageous efforts of his medical team of doctors and staff at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, the dedication of his committed wife Nila, and the constant prayers of his loved ones, God gently called him home after ten days his of courageous struggle and passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026.

Austin is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-two years, Nila Jamias Baul, whose faithful love and devoted care remained steadfast throughout their marriage.

Though his earthly journey has ended, Austin leaves behind a rich legacy of wisdom, leadership, compassion, integrity, and love for family. He will be remembered as a brilliant thinker, a respected leader, a gifted communicator, a faithful friend, and a man whose life touched countless hearts.

May his memory continue to inspire future generations to pursue knowledge, serve others with humility, cherish family above all, and live a life of purpose and honor.
