He was 92 when he died from metastasized prostate cancer on June 15th at his home in Arcadia, CA - just as he had wished it to be.
He was the oldest brother to 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by Donna and Dorene, and is survived by Diana.
He is also survived by his wife Marguerite, son Michael and daughter-in-law Linette, daughter Marilee and son-in-law Steve, and daughter Kimberly. His grandchildren April, Brian, Steven, Bonnie, Bradley, Cheyenne, and Brooke, along with over 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
His life began in Illinois, but his family moved to Concord, California. He graduated from Diablo High School in 1952.
After high school attended Berkeley for a short time where he studied engineering. His Christian life began as he attended large crusade meetings during his college years where he accepted Jesus as his Savior. He worked in the aerospace engineering field at companies such as Northrop and North American Aviation. After being laid off a few times he decided to change careers and studied Computer Programming, getting an AA degree from Orange Coast College in 1972.
Throughout his younger years most of his time was spent racing cars. He was married in 1960 and his son Michael was born in 1962. His first marriage dissolved and ended in divorce in 1966, but Dennis concentrated on his passion for racing and went on to win many trophies. He was committed to his racing club and served as president and also as treasurer.
He and Marguerite met at a San Gabriel Church pot luck in November 1977. On September 9, 1978 they had a beautiful garden wedding officiated by Pastor David Wood. Their marriage has always been centered on 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
They would have been married for 48 years this coming September.
After his marriage Dennis began working for Edison in 1980 as a computer programmer and he also began to spend less time racing and more time on church ministry. He and Marguerite hosted a bible study group for ten years and they also served in various ministries such as the Bridge Christian Outreach Ministry, Evangelism Explosion, and Stephen’s Ministry. His love for God and others was evident in everything he did and how he treated everyone he came into contact with from missions to friends and also his family.
In 1996 he retired from Edison and received a nice VRO package, which included paid tuition to a college. He decided to study Architecture at PCC. He found it fascinating.
His favorite pastimes were playing games including chess and completing puzzles. Retirement allowed Dennis and Marguerite to travel. They took trips around the United States, spent a month in Ireland in 2003 and two weeks in Japan in 2004. After Marguerite retired they went to Hawaii and also visited Pastor Dave and Janet Wood in 2006. In 2009 they returned to Ireland and visited Scotland as well.
In 2008 Marilee and family got both he and Marguerite passes to Disneyland for their 30th anniversary. This began many years of visits to the “Happiest Place on Earth” with many cherished memories. They also visited the Huntington Library and Gardens and the Los Angeles Arboretum on many occasions.
He will be missed now that he has gone to the “Happiest Place of All”… Heaven to be with his Savior Jesus! He will always be our beloved… as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, leader, example and friend!
