I've known Derek since the early 70s from our Sealink days; very shocked & saddened by the news. We met up in Portsmouth last year, and I was hoping to see him again soon. My sincere condolences to family and friends.

I was very sad to hear of Derek passing away. He was very kind to me when we travelled to Los Angeles in 2009. He gave myself and 2 friends I was travelling with a home for a few days and made us feel very welcome. I will miss the nights out we had, and hope that his lovely daughters are looked after. All the best.

Derek has been a good friend for several years, we first met in Brits a few years back and have shared many stories (and pints) together.  So terribly sad and a deep shock, especially so soon after his wife passed away.  My thoughts are with his two girls of whom he always spoke so fondly.

The news of Derek's passing came as a tremendous shock to both of us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends, family, and loved ones, in particular his father Fred and his two daughters. May their cherished memories of him bring some measure of comfort. I certainly have many happy remembrances as well, going all the way back to a small village on the south coast of Crete in 1979 where we first met. Always a soft-spoken and friendly chap. I first got to know Derek in the 1970's when we worked together in Portsmouth, England. We decided to go travelling across Europe where we had many adventures and just the greatest of times. After a year back home we then thought we'd travel to California to seek our fortunes. I returned home after a few months. Derek stayed on, eventually meeting his wife, Cindy, settling in Pasadena and having two lovely daughters.
I still find it very hard to believe that he's not going to be around any more. He was always such good fun to be with and never had a bad word to say about anyone.
My wife and I will miss him immensely.

I was so sad to hear of Derek's passing.  I am a friend of Derek's from many years ago and even though we didn't see each other often when we did it was just like old times.  Derek was a very gentle soul with a great sense of humor and always willing to help out.  He will be terribly missed by me and I know his family, Cindy's family and the rest of his friends feel the same.  I am sorry to say that I will not be able to attend his service as I have long arranged plans to visit family out of state beginning on March 22nd.  My thoughts will be with all of you at the service and of course I will be thinking of Derek.
