He accepted Christ in 1969 and was baptized by Rev. George G. Bailey, Second Baptist Church (SBC), Monrovia. He attended Huntington Elementary, Clifton Jr. High, (7th) Santa Fe (8th) Jr. High, and Monrovia High School, graduating class of 1975. Upon graduation he worked at Mobil Oil and later Walt Disney.
Following a long career with The Gas Company (39 years) Edgar stepped further into his true calling as an entrepreneur. He developed and built homes and commercial properties both in and beyond his community. He developed and built his own two homes which his family resides in. That became the foundation for a lifetime of Entrepreneurship spanning into construction & development, recycling center, trucking and equipment, along with restate investments.
Edgar didn’t just work hard; he worked with intention, purpose, and pride using every skill he learned along the way. He didn’t just build structures; he built a life of full motion, meaning and community. His genuine, kindness, and caring spirit was evident in every role he held , including as husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, colleague, and a true jack of all trades.
In June 1981, he married the love of his life, Sondra Lewis. Together they built their legacy: a family grounded in love and unity. Their three children: Ambra Bourne‐Dumas, Edgar Bourne III (“JR”), and Brittany Bourne, were his pride and joy, each of whom pursued higher education and carried forward his relentless drive and discipline. He treasured his three granddaughter’s: Christine Ariel, Briel, and Faith Aria, who knew their “Papa” as their biggest supporter to show up, cheer loud, and spoil them endlessly.
Edgar lived as he built, steady, hands‐on, and deeply committed. He was the person people called when they needed help, guidance, or someone who would simply show up. His success was measured not in profit, but in relationships, generosity, and presence.
Fast cars, faster boats, and a life lived in motion, that was Edgar. But what he valued most was time with family and the satisfaction of a job done right. His absence will be profoundly missed. However, his lessons on service, loyalty, and showing up will endure in everyone he touched.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Pauline (Bourne) Bailey and Velma Bourne. He is survived by, his wife Sondra; sister Eva (Bourne) McLaurin; children, Ambra, JR. and Brittany; Goddaughter Bryanna Cotton; grandchildren: Christine Ariel, Briel, and Faith Aria; son‐in‐law J.P. Dumas, and countless loved ones and colleagues who relied on his steadfast spirit and generous heart. His legacy lives not only in what he built, but in the people he built up.
