Gail had the best smile and always made me feel welcome at the Richard M Baker singing and western Ministry, so many lunches and talks as Gail and her Jay would share a sandwich and chips like two love birds in a nest of Joy, Jays Corvette with Gail on the road was a sight to see they looked like Monrovia High School Kids in Love with lovely daughter Ali with the Sunny Smile. it was like the Andrews sisters with Gail and Ginger and Faith Baker singing about Jesus as the Trio.

I knew this charming Christian sister from the 
Baker family ministry, My Olde Tyme. This elegant Lady always with a special diamond on her hand or bracelet was energetic and welcoming at all times, Special Lunches I hosted for Jay and Gayle at Acupulco and Movrovian restaurants were cozy and nice to be with young modern Christians, This family will not be forgotten I called them the rays of Sunshine even when she had a headache she beamed with Christs Spirit. i see gayle as she was in high school. darling. shy. smiling always.  we got to "cheer" together, one year apart. jv cheerleaders.  i remember when she and jj started dating, it was a perfect fit. two of the nicest people you'd ever meet.  when i was pregnant with my oldest, kalika... gayle made the greatest quilt for her, all gingham, all colors, and it was my daughters favorite. im pretty sure i still have it, because, it really was her favorite.
i am so sorry for your loss, she was so very special. im sure you have many mom stories you will tell forever.   sending your family love and strength, donna

As I grew up in the youth group we had at church,  whether in the softball or volleyball  games we played,  I always admired how well she played at both. I loved talking with her every Sunday at church and getting her to laugh, (she had such a great one.) Gayle's beautiful voice, as well as Ginger and Faith's were always such a treat to hear together as the Trio. Choir practice and Christmas Carolling, Campouts. I had such a good youth growing up in my teens doings all these things and Gayle was always there in all of it. I love you Gayle, until I see you again in Heaven... you are under His wings, safely abiding forever.

Gayle was my first friend and  beloved sister. I will miss her but know she has gone to her reward and is in the arms of angels. 

Gayle was family to me. Before I was born, my parents rented the little house behind her grandparents, who introduced them to Grace Church of Arcadia and Gayle's parents, Vivian and Bob.  When our family grew, we moved to a new home in Monrovia but Gayle and I attended Sunday School/Church together and became close friends. 

When I was in the second grade, my parents bought a house on Lincoln Place,  one house away from hers. We were constant companions, walking to school together, playing at her house or ours, hide and seek in the neighborhood or baseball in the street, going to Brownies/Girls Scouts, and  going to Church with her cousins, Jim and Jon , their wonderful mother, Nanda, and her uncle Bill, as well as the Wigington, Weber, Shibley, Baker, Ellingson, Carson and so many other close-knit families bonded by faith.

Gayle and her family made me feel like I was a part of the Van de Wetering family. I was the lucky adopted little sister who got to watch Faith square dance, listen to the Beatles and be courted by  the charming and devoted Dick Baker. Norm teased me and Ginger tolerated me, but they were family. 

I missed Gayle every summer when her family made their annual trek to Yosemite. While they were away, I would feed their cats, pick their lemons and collect their mail for them. I couldn't wait for her to come home to tell me stories of her adventures. 

At Monrovia High School, Gayle blossomed into the lovely and accomplished young woman with whom Jay fell madly in love. I was privileged to watch their love grow and be a bridesmaid in their wedding. Gayle's love for Jay and her daughters was profound and eternal, and the pride and joy she felt in them was palpable, as was her love for her grandchildren. I know she is smiling and radiant, waiting for the day when they will be together again in Heaven. God Bless Gayle. xo

Gayle was a wonderful part of my life during my childhood and early adult years. She was always the sister that went beyond, and looked out for everyone taking care of us all as the proverbial "mother hen". Whether it was making sure we had a ride to the Weber's on a Sunday night or could find a way to "young peoples" on Tuesday night, she was always there to guide and inspire. Countless times she made up the "trio" to sing at church. I can still hear her sing along her sisters Ginger and Faith. Gayle had a contagious smile and a wonderful grace about her.  If I was to close my eyes I could still see her smile and hear her voice calling me 'Danny" ( she never called me Dan!). Even though we were not "blood" family, she was always my older sister who looked out and cared for me. Through the years, as we grew older and I moved away, I was saddened to hear of her passing. However, I know she loved Jesus with all of her heart and now, she is singing with my Mother playing piano in the presence of our King. I am sorry for your loss Jay, we love you all very much. One day, you will be reunited with your bride and what a homecoming that will be.

My memories of Gayle are earlier on. We didn't see much of each other as adults, but spent alot more time together as teenagers. We were second cousins. I stayed quite a few weekends with her and family back then on N. Lincoln Pl. Even as a teenager she had dignity and grace and was strong in her belief in our Lord. I looked up to her and wanted to be just like her.  She was a shining example. She was genuinely interested in other's lives and what they were going through. I had so much fun with her back then. She was enthusiastic about everything. Really like a sister to me, except we didn't fight. The perfect person to girl talk with. Her family took me to church with them at Grace Church in Arcadia, and then we would all go out to dinner at Bob's Big Boy. She and I would have double burgers and hot fudge sundaes that she insisted be served WITH our burgers, not after. Or we would go back to their house for Aunt Vivian's tamale pie. Back then she loved McDonald's food too, maybe still does. She was always sweet and kind to me as I tagged along with her. I'm sure she was that way with everyone. She would send me postcards from all of their trips to Yosemite, and tell me all the details of the trips. My family got to join them one time after Gayle and Jay had their own family and all of our kids were young. It was a great trip together. She is one of the best people I have ever known. Heaven has a wonderful new resident. 💖

I will always remember the times you told me to stop chasing around Leigha (the cat).
And when you tried to teach me piano. Going to your house after school was the coolest thing. 
Allison,Christine, and Uncle Jay. I m so sorry thsis happened so soon. Shes in a better place now. May God bless her soul. 

50 years ago, in the aftermath of the Sylmar earthquake, Gayle kindly took me under her wing (I couldn’t reach my parents) and invited me to stay with her at her home as MHS classes were canceled.  I remember so clearly her reassuring voice that all would be well ~ and it was.  I fondly remember her wedding as well.  Although we lost touch with each other,  I am heartened to learn that Gayle lived a well-loved life, surrounded by family and friends.

When Allison and I were in middle school, and we were talking about boys with Gayle, she went into the hall closet and brought out a brown corduroy jacket. It was Jay’s. She shared with us that when she and Jay were younger, she embroidered a message on the inside of his jacket, so that he could always think of her and how much she loved him. She opened the inside flap of the jacket and embroidered in fall colors were the words “Jay, love you more and more each day. Love, Gayle”. The warmth in her eyes when she showed this to us has stayed with me now for decades. As she put it away after sharing memories of the two of them growing up in love together, she giggled and said “my husband is still so handsome”, and her face was alight with love. I had a wonderful example of two people loving each other deeply growing up. I’m so glad that Allison and Christine did too, and that the adoration that Jay and Gayle shared radiated far beyond their family, as a beautiful example to so many of us. 

When we first met Gail she was so excited that her daughter was pregnant and going to be having a baby. She said oh I prayed and prayed and God answered my prayers Gale was so happy she could hardly contain herself. Now there must have been another job that needed to be done and God has called her. G a i l you will be missed.

One of my fondest memories of Gayle was simply a conversation that we had one day while I was visiting Allison in our teen years, or maybe later in our twenties. We sat and talked together for quite some time. I cannot recall the subject of our conversation but I vividly remember how she spoke and how comfortable she always made me feel in her home. She had such a sweet, gentle voice and warm smile, she truly was an angel on earth. Gayle always welcomed Allison and Christine’s friends into their home and made us feel like family. I feel truly blessed to have known Gayle, for all of the fun memories of family and friends gathered in their home, and for the opportunity that brought me back into her life over the last year and a half. 


There are just a few memories left as I had a stroke in roughly the same area as Gayle did just a couple of years before and my memory has been affected as was hers. 

Gayle and I were born just 17 days apart, me being the older. We first met at Mayflower Elementary in Monrovia, California.  It was a wonderful time in which to grow up!

At Mayflower, I remember 
Gayle as sweet and kind, and I could always make her giggle and laugh. I remember her different looks at me and seeing her in the classroom.  She was always dressed smartly in a skirt...often a plaid.  She was very good at playing foursquare and teatherball.  

Gayle was my partner when Mayflower put on an afternoon event for the parents. We were dance partners and did a country square dance with an alamander left, an alamander right, a dosido, and swing your partner round.  She was good at dancing and would gently correct my missed steps with "Here Brian, do it like this!"

We also did a Polynesian dance where the boys were on their knees and tapped out a rhythm on the ground with bamboo poles. The dance represented hunters trying to catch birds by their legs.  I'm assuming it must have been birds such as (and now I can't think of the type... sorry Gayle), but like a flamingo.. The girls had to dance in between the poles as we tapped them down twice on the ground and then clapped them together once in the air and then kept repeating that rhythm.  The girls danced in between the clap of the poles, dressed with colorful plastic Hawaiian leas around their necks, and tried not to get "trapped" by the hunters.  It was a lots of fun and we had a great time!

We went to Clifton Jr High together and then onto MHS. We shared many classes together . It was in one of our drafting classes where JJ and Gayle made the beginnings of their lifelong connections.  We always had smiles for each other as we passed by in the halls. Gayle was a cheer leader and I remember her well at football games cheering the Varsity team on.

So many good memories with Gayle (and Jay), it's hard to pick, but our camping trips to Yosemite almost every year were my very favorite memories of time with her. She was always up for anything we wanted to do. We had so many fun times, sitting round the campfire talking and laughing, our trips to Glacier point and lunch at the top sitting on the rocks looking out to Half Dome. Hiking to Yosemite Falls, our blow up boat trips paddling down the Merced and most of all our last night pizza and ice cream dinner at Camp Curry where we'd laugh, tease and talk about our adventures. I loved her like a sister and I will miss her always, but I am so happy she is in the arms of our Lord now and no longer suffering.

Gayle ; you were a blessing to all . we met at church over 10yrs ago  or more , your involvement in church was very much appreciated  to all. Your are a friend to all . you always had a calmness that  was always felt by all of us, your presence was felt by all, your beautiful voice when you sang and the notes you could hold with your voice I loved. My favorite memories of Auntie Gayle are all of our traditional Doheny beach vacations and Friday night sleepovers with chocolate shakes and cheeseburgers! Can’t wait to hug your neck in heaven. We love you! 

I will never forget how much Gayle lived her wedding dress. It was made from one of her grandmother's Damask tablecloth. She loved it so much she just didn't want to take it off!

I so enjoyed spending time with Gayle.  We spent hours just talking about anything that came to mind.  Her love of the Lord and her family were always evident in her conversation.  I treasure our times together.

I will always fondly remember my sister-in-law, Gayle by the love she had for babies/children, music/singing and kittens. She was a wonderful mother to her children and grandchildren and a very loyal, faithful supportive wife to my brother, Jay. 

Dear Family:

I met your wonderful
Patents back when they were looking for a new Family home. You girls were so little and sweet. 
Than your parents moved to Cardiff and life went on.
Over all the years Gayle suffered so much from headaches. We all prayed for her and the headaches would come and go and you girls continued to grow. Your Dad was busy teaching school, but was always so concerned about his dear Gayle. They traveled some, enjoyed the time shared and the motorhome. Put in the pool and I’m sure you all enjoyed that. Eventually your Dad retired and they made some trips to enjoy the Grandchildren. But, I’m sure Gayle continued to suffer off and on.  I know I always thought - why God? - Gayle was so sweet to everyone - why did she have to suffer so much.? In my heart of heart I feel that God finally said -enough is enough and took her up to Heaven to rest with Him. I know you will all miss her, but you’ll be with her again one day, but her suffering is over. She is with her Savior and will be waiting for each of you with a smile from ear to ear. 
Live your lives, love each other and know that your time together will come soon enough and you will all be happy and pain free.

Gayle was such a huge part of my teenage years and early 20s!  She probably had no idea how much she influenced me!  It was carpooling to and from school that she introduced me to country music. George Strait, Deana Carter, Faith Hill... I probably wouldn't have discovered any of these artists if not for her. Strawberry Wine and I Can Still Make Cheyenne remind me of when I fell in love with country, all thanks to her!  Parties at her house were SO much fun! Epic games of hide & seek and good music are locked in my memory forever!  And, when I would pet sit while the family would be on a camping adventure, she would always take the time to ask how I was doing and offer good 'mom-type' advice when I'd stop by to pick up or drop off the house key.  I really appreciated the conversations we had. I loved your mom, Allison and Christine! ❤❤❤

One of my greatest memories of my mom was being able to work on the same elementary campus with her. As she roamed from room to room doing her teacher aide duties she would sometimes pop in my classroom unexpectedly and interact with me or my students. My students loved it!
