We are so fortunate to know the Gaytan family and their beautiful daughter Giana. She was kindness, loving, gentleness, caring, and generosity brought to life. An "old soul" that is hard to imagine ever being a child because she was always respectful and nurturing. Giana was so loving with our grand daughters Charlotte and Maddison and treated them like they were her own! She still brings a smile to us when we talk about her because that is the impact she had on all of us-a genuinely happy person that made everyone else happy. Thank you Giana and the Gaytan family for sharing her with us! Heaven now shines brighter because of her!

It’s been about 8 months now that you left all of us. There isn’t a day that goes bye that I know Jessica and I are not thinking about you. I sometimes catch Jessica shedding a tear and I already know why. You were such an amazing person, you touched so many people with your kindness and love. I miss your laugh and your beautiful smile and your great big genuine hugs with that rub on the back. Thank you so much for being there for not only Maddison but Charlotte as well. They miss you everyday. Thank you for being such an amazing friend to Jessica and being there when she needed you. I will always be grateful for when you were there for me and the girls when Jessica was away in Afghanistan. Thank you so much for treating us like family. You will always be in our hearts. Giana,. You were such a beautiful soul. Whenever we would see you, we always got a big hug and a kiss from you. You were just the sweetest. I want to thank you for being so good to your god daughter Maddie and her sister Charlotte, who are my granddaughters. They loved you so much. The girls talk about you all the time. They miss you as we all do.  You left your family and friends too soon, and you will be missed by everyone. Heaven received a beautiful Angel.   Rest in Peace  Giana.

I will forever miss our chats but I know one day I will walk into heaven and go straight to your table so we can catch up.

To say "Life is precious" is an understatement, when you speak of this life here. G, how you have touched so many lives with your beautiful soul.  Everyone who came into contact with you felt your warmth and kindness. Your pure heart  radiated on the outside. You were THEE best person we knew and everyone who met you would agree. You kept it real and you kept everyone in line. It didn't matter who you were because you told it like it was, and held your ground. You touched young minds, being an incredible Teacher. Everyone else was lucky enough for you to teach is lessons as well. You taught us to be better versions of ourselves, in your presence alone. You always said I was Strong G but each step in my adult life you helped me get through to the next one, Wife, Mother, US Navy,  Student,  & Afghanistan. I couldn't have done any of it without your support and love. You treated us like family and were so happy to have you as part of our family. You & Genise always treated the girls as your own, especially when I was deployed. My dearest, funny Best friend who holds a place in our hearts forever, I promise I will continue to try to be better and NEVER stop  striving to be the best version of myself. It has taken me a long time to write this because I miss you more than anything. People say it will get easier, but honestly I now it never will. You hold one of the biggest roles in my life. You are my big sister. We have the perfect sister relationship. You were always there for me, you always looked out for me, you always supported me, and you always told me like it was (whether I wanted to hear it or not). We would say it was us against the world, & we experienced quite a few of those situations, but it never mattered to me because in the end I knew I had you and you had me; and that was more than enough.
G you have given me the best memories and laughs from our Vancouver trip to just laughing about something we both noticed while driving in the Trooper. All our memories will forever hold a special place in my heart. I always thought we'd have a lifetime together to travel more, to have each other there for our big moments in life and just thinking about those things will always make me sad and all those big moments will always be bittersweet because the one person I always needed to be there won't be. You truly are my everything G, my other half, my best friend, my biggest supporter, & my role model. I always looked up to you G, you are perfect, the best in every way. I am blessed and forever grateful that God gave me you as my big sister. I may not have had you for as long as I thought I would, but the years we did have are unforgettable. From the very first day Giana Gaytan came to Murray we all knew we had received an incredible teacher. Giana is awesome with kids. Students who previously struggled, show remarkable improvement while in her class. As a result of her nurturing style, they begin to enjoy school while meeting her high expectations. Giana's positive attitude and passion for teaching makes her an invaluable piece of the Murray puzzle and without her, Murray would not be the beautiful place that it is. Giana, on behalf of all the hearts that you have already touched, we honor your excellence today!

My beautiful G,
Today marks 7 months since you’ve been gone, I miss you so much, I look at all our pictures and as much as I love & cherish our memories, it also hurts. You were the best sis, you were ALWAYS here for me and my girls no matter what! I could always tell you anything & confide in you. You were always down to have a beer & just hang out! No matter what we did together, it was always good times with you!  Thank you for loving my girls like they were your own. You made such an impact on Gwen, you were always so proud of her. And your Nini & Gracey sure  love their Gigi.  You loved them so much and the 3 love you so much. I will forever be grateful for you sis. For all your love and always spoiling our girls. I am so blessed to have been able to know Giana while she was here with us.  I had the pleasure of working with Giana for several years.  I was an aide in her classroom and was honored to be able to witness her teach with such passion, love, and humor.  She was serious about teaching her students and helping them thrive, but there were always times of laughter in her classroom as well.  She always went above and beyond for her students.  I remember how she would give every student a Mcdonalds gift card on their birthday, she was always doing the sweetest things for each of them.   
 We became close friends outside of work as well.  I will cherish all the moments we had together.  Giana was always up for a good time whether it was dinner or a special event it was always a funny joyful time with her.  I'll miss her laughter, her hugs, and her smile.  Her role here on earth was so important, I could just imagine the plans God has for her in heaven.  Love you forever Giana<3

In these past couple of months we have learned that grief is another name for love.  We are here today to honor Giana, not only as a close friend, loving daughter, sister and aunt, but as an incredible teacher.  She was a strong, kind, real, bold, and exceedingly dedicated teacher.  She had wisdom beyond her years.  
As described by her colleagues, Giana was a Rockstar teacher.  She loved her students and was passionate about her career.  She was always organized and methodical in her lesson presentations and planning.  You could always see her with her "Happy Planner" planning book full of stickers and color coded pens where she would write her daily lesson plans.
Giana went above and beyond to help her students and instilled a sense of pride in them.  She was able to build up student's self-confidence with her patient and calm demeanor and also with her beautiful and caring smile.  Respect was always seen in Ms Gaytan's class, not because it was demanded, but because it was just expected.   The children knew that in Ms Gaytan's class they were going to learn not only academics, but learn to respect themselves and others.  Her standards were high, but she had faith in every student that they would grow to meet those standards.  She was able to tap into each students' unique strengths and use those strengths to motivate them.  She ended the day on a positive note with each and every one of her kiddos with a hug and a sincere "I love you".  
We all know that teaching was her passion, but beyond that Giana appreciated a good time she loved her family dearly she enjoyed traveling friends music and her Starbucks.
Giana's knowledge, her hard work and her passion will not be forgotten.  It will forever be seen in her family, her students and in any individual that had the privilege of knowing her.

Hello everyone my name is Tina and on behalf of the Gaytan Family they would like to express their sincere gratitude for all who have come to celebrate their beautiful daughter Giana.  
Giana Marie was born September 22, 1986 in Bellflower CA.  She lived her entire life in Azusa.  She attended Paramount Elementary, Slauson Middle School and GladstoneHigh School.  Giana went on to receive her Bachelor's degree and teaching credentials from Cal Poly Pomona.
Giana's younger sister Genise shared with me that when they were young girls and played school, G(as her close friends and family call her)was always the teacher and she would make assignments for Genise and her friends and she would actually grade them.  As you can see at such a young age this beautiful young soul knew exactly what she wanted and she always want for it.  Giana always said she was going to be a teacher and teach here in Azusa and she did just that.
I had the pleasure of meeting Giana at the beginning of her teaching career in 2011 when she started as a substitute.  The first time Giana came to sub at Murray I remember that day so clearly as if it were just yesterday.  She walked passed my office and I instantly knew who she was.  She was that little girl with that long beautiful hair who was at church every Saturday night with her family here at St. Frances of Rome.  I said excuse me and she turned around with the most beautiful smile and that was it Giana became one of my closest friends.  In July 2014 Murray was in need of a 4th grade teacher and Giana was offered the position.
Teaching was not just a job to her but her passion and she was amazingly wonderful at it.

Dear Gaytan Family,
 I just want to tell you what our teacher Miss Gaytan did for her students. & also some nice things about her. Well Miss Gaytan was an amazing teacher because she asked us if there is something going on that we need to tell her so she can try & help us in any way she can. Also on Friday's we would do art & sometimes watch movies while coloring or drawing. Miss Gaytan was tall & beautiful. & she loved the color purple & Starbucks. Your daughter Miss Gaytan was the greatest teacher I ever had, she was sweet, funny, & she always encouraged us to turn on our cameras & get out of our comfort zone so we can speak & give out answers. She always asked us how our day went & if we say it was bad she would try to make us feel better by telling us a joke so we can laugh. Miss Gaytan laughed a lot like for everything & she used to tell us that we are the craziest class that she ever had. Also she would ask all of us what we had for lunch & what we did on our break. She would try to help us when we would get stuck on something. For example, like math, she would say "well what's next to solve the problem?" If we didn't know we will say & then she would call on a person to say how to do it so it can help the other person that got stuck. & I know we all are going to miss her very much. But we have all the good memories that we are never going to forget. & Miss Gaytan is in heaven now & she is watching us grow up & go to college & see what we are going to do when we are adults.

Dear Gaytan Family,
 I just wanted to say to Miss Gaytan's family that Miss Gaytan helped me so much in school & with other things too. I remember everyday one of my classmates would always get her to laugh. She was always so happy. For the past two weeks I was not feeling the same as when Miss Gaytan was here with us. Now I know that I will never see 5th grade the same. I listen to this one song that makes me think of her so much. She would always make me so happy. The song is called "It will Rain." This song makes me think of her so much & now it makes me cry. I just don't see school the same. My mom & family really miss her too. Miss Gaytan was such a good person. She would always help all the kids in my class that needed help. She was such a nice, pretty lady. She would always make every day a fun day. Miss Gaytan would always make more time to help more kids. She would stay until 4pm to help kids that needed it. & yes I am one of those kids. She would always help us when we did not know much. (I just want her back...)

Dear Gaytan Family,
 Thank you for letting your daughter be my teacher. She was the best teacher I could ever ask for. She always made me laugh, & she loved to play around with all of us sometimes. She would do her best to help us learn new things & she would try so hard to make us put on our cameras so she can see us. She never gave up on anything. She tried so hard to do the right things for us. Staying all day & afternoon with kids from ELD & tutoring. She helped those that were in ELD & tutoring so they can be better at reading & spelling. I know because I was one of them that she helped. When I heard that Miss Gaytan was going to be my teacher I was scared. But after I got to know her I was not scared at all. She was the best. We will all miss her & remember her as a great, loving, hardworking teacher. I am so sorry for your loss. We all cried when we heard that Miss Gaytan passed away but we know that she is now in a better place. & now we are all going to do our best to make her proud of us. & we will always remember the great times we had with her.

 Miss Gaytan was an incredible teacher & it is really sad to see her gone. But when she was here she was an amazing teacher & would always try her hardest to get her students to turn on their cameras. But because she had to work from home she was not able to have her morning Starbucks coffee, which I found to be pretty funny.  Your daughter was an amazing person & teacher. I remember how happy she was to see her students even if that meant seeing them through a screen. She loved teaching so much. To Our Beautiful Daughter Giana Marie
When you were born we knew you were going to be very special. I almost had you in the car. Kaiser in Bellflower was a long drive from Azusa. There were fifteen baby boys & you were the only baby girl born on September 22, 1986. I remember a nurse coming in  & asking “Mr. & Mrs. Gaytan do you have a name for your baby girl yet?” Your dad looked at me & said her name has to start with the letter G . So he picked you up, held you in his arms & he was just looking at you for a long time. Then he said how about Giana with one N. I Loved It. So we named you Giana Marie. At that moment I knew you were going to be a daddy’s girl. You were such a good baby. You grew up to be a good person very lovable, caring, funny, & always happy. You never got mad, always very understanding. You had this laugh & hugs that were one of a kind. That’s one thing we miss in the house. Every morning & night you would give us all a hug & kiss on the cheek. We are always going to miss hearing you laugh. I’m always going to miss you asking lady do you need help or lady would you like to come volunteer in my classroom. I’m going to miss that very much. I liked being with you & watching you teach. You always made it so easy. I could tell every year your students cared for you so much. You would come home & tell us something about your students. A lot of times the stories would be funny. You always knew how to handle every situation with them. That’s why you were one of a kind. Your brothers George & Gabriel were so very proud of you. They were so thankful that you were able to help your nieces & nephew, Gwen, Geanie, George lll. Gracey is still too young, but I know she remembers you. They all love & miss you so much. As for your sister, your best friend you both had a one of a kind bond. Always together & very close. Mija this was so easy to write because you were a perfect daughter. I praise God that I had the pleasure of working with Giana approximately 10 years.  She was a beautiful person inside and out. It was always a  joy to be around Giana.  She always made everyone feel so special.  Her students also adored her. In the words of one of her students, "Ms. Gaytan always made me feel special. I will miss her." I too will Miss Giana.  Thanks Giana for being a wonderful caring friend, a dynamic teacher, and just for being you.  I will keep the wonderful memories of you in my heart forever.

Giana was an awesome friend. She exuded happiness. Her smile could light up a room. I remember her passion for her students. She was so excited on Spirit Day that one of her students had dressed up as her. She shined when she helped organize and supervise the school dances.  She loves her students with the passion that she had for teaching. The one thing that made Giana shine was her family. I loved her stories about "The Lady" and her going to Solvang or getting their nails done to her "Pops" trying to teach her how to drive.  I will always remember how her face would light up when she would share videos and pictures of her nieces and nephews.  She loved bragging about her brothers and their beautiful families. It was fun to hear about the adventure that Giana took with her sister to Canada and how excited she was just to spend time with just the two of them. Giana was pure light and she shared that with everyone who knew her and experience her friendship.  Thank you Giana for your pure light and love.

We will miss Giana's beautiful smile. She brought so much joy to her students, as well as the staff.  She had a way of connecting with her students, that made coming to school a joy. 
   When I was going through a tough time, Giana's calm demeanor helped me get through it.  I was able to see that she would be a natural as a teacher. We were so fortunate to have Giana for the time that we did.  

Gianna was always kind enough to let me volunteer in her classroom. She knew I wanted to be an elementary school teacher so she would invite me into her class to see what it was like. I admired Gianna very much and will always remember her as my sweet and beautiful friend. <3 

Hi my name is Tina Canova.  Giana was a very very dear friend of mine.  Ten years ago she walked into Murray Elementary as a sub and we became instant friends.  She was a remarkable teacher.  Over the years I would see Giana work her magic with her kiddos.  I loved going in her room each year and seeing the different ways she would set her room up.  I always called her "My Girl".  We would talk and talk about our families.  She loved each and everyone in her family.  They meant the world to her.  I pray for the Gaytan family I pray that God continues to heal their broken hearts.  I miss My Girl so much.  Till we meet again Love you Tina

I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that you are  gone ! 😠 It’s just so hard to believe that you are no longer here with us.

Yes we are all going miss your beautiful smile your loud laugh, your amazing warm  comfy hugs and at the end of that hug you would pat our back and whisper I love you and I would say back I love you too Mija.  I remember you sitting at tia Fran’s dining room and we all would be talking and laughing and your mother would say something about doing things for you girls and you would look up and roll those eyes that no one can ever replace  and look at your mom and say now everybody knows what you do for us! And we would all start laughing.  
You were the rock for your mom the partner for your sister the advisor to your brothers and for your Nieces and nephew the AMAZING TEACHER ! And you were the Beautiful loving daughter to your dad. And your sister in laws there loving caring sister-in-law . AND for your family you were the beautiful loving caring amazing niece.  That will never ever be forgotten. I will forever miss you G, your iconic laugh, your bright smile, and your hugs that comforted me most. Thank you for being my mentor throughout school and my life. From telling me how to get on my teachers good side in elementary school to letting me know what colleges I should now look into. We will see each other in another life but until then I love and miss you.💜

It’s so hard to have to write this for you because I still don’t want to believe that it’s true. I don’t want this journey we are on together as cousins to end. It’s too soon. But you my dear cousin were a once in a lifetime find on this earth. Smart, funny, beautiful, sweet, dependable, I could go on and on but much too perfect for this world. I am so thankful that our paths crossed in life and that I could call you my cousin.  Someone I would have absolutely chosen to be in my life 1000 times over, if god didn’t have the genius idea of putting us together in this one. 😉 It was truly an honor to have known you and loved you. 

You made a huge impact on every single one of our family members lives and the countless students that you taught. Students by the way that went to your services because that is the kind of teacher that you were. A caring and loving one that touched the hearts of her students and that was so awesome to see.  You knew you wanted to be a teacher, became one and mastered it in your short time on this earth. To this day, I still haven’t found anyone that shares my love of books and reading like you even if it was thousands of pages and 15 volumes. 😆 I knew you would like it too and we could discuss it like our own little book club. 

I LOVE you my baby cousin and I always will. There will never be a day that I don’t think of you, your smile, your awesome giggle that made itself known every time I saw you, your tight hugs that were exclusive to you and your overall happy demeanor. I will miss seeing you and your smiling face whenever we all get together and I know that it will never be the same without you. I will wait until the day I can see you again my dear cousin so we can pick up where we left off. I’ll love you always and cherish the memories we had together until we meet again. 😘

Our beautiful Giana, 💜 I feel like it's a bad dream to think that your gone and I'm not waking up. I am always thinking of you and sometimes I start crying and other times I smile or laugh because I can imagine you laughing. I miss your amazing big hugs. Those were my favorites. You were always there especially for the girls birthdays. They loved you so much, especially our Rebekah. You guys had a great bond. You were her Miss Giana. She loved being at your house especially when she got a treat.  
I miss you so much, we will always keep your memory alive and never forget you.  Sometimes I dont understand why but I know that's not for us to figure it out.   What will keep me going is to know that I will see you again and can't wait for your hugs and see your beautiful smile.

Beautiful Giana,

Still till this day I cannot believe you’re no longer with us. I think about you often. Your beautiful smile, your pretty hair, comfy hugs and that contagious  laugh. At times I’d find myself laughing just because you were laughing.  I’m thankful for the times we were able spend together. Our family will never be the same without you. You will forever be missed. Loving you always. 

I miss everything about you G, your laugh, your smile, especially your big beautiful, warm hugs. You've always been there for me and my brother and that I can never forget. When my dad died you would text me every chance you got. When my mom got cancer you came over every chance you could. Everytime that door bell rang and I looked out and saw you, your sister and nina, and I knew we were going have some laughs. The moment you stepped in the house I stop thinking about all the bad around me and my family, even if it was just for a few hours. Your presence did that. The day I got that phone call I dropped to my knees and started questioning a lot of things in this life. Anger and disbelief hit me hard. But then, you came to me in a dream, and that gave me peace of mind-knowing you will always be with us even if its not in the way we would like.  So I'm choosing to stay the course and honor you by traveling with my family, to see the world and enjoy life just like you did my sweet sister. Everyday I saw you there was a smile on your face and that is branded in my heart forever. I love you, i miss you, and I know I will see you again someday. 💔
