It is with heavy yet loving hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Sanchez on Monday, May 25, 2026. Joe was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and an all-around good man whose kindness, generosity, and spirit touched the lives of many.
Joe was known by many nicknames, ranging from playful and lighthearted to those inspired by his unique personality. It seemed everyone who knew him had a special name for him—a testament to the impact he had on the lives of so many. No matter what you called him, Joe always left a lasting impression and was someone people never forgot.
He was a man of many dimensions—emotional, caring, stubborn, generous, and full of life. He knew how to work hard, but he also knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. Always ready for a party, Joe loved to dance and had a way of bringing energy, laughter, and joy wherever he went. Those who knew him will remember his infectious spirit and his ability to make every gathering more memorable.
A hardworking and dependable man, Joe never shied away from lending a helping hand. Whether it was a side job for a family member, a project for a friend, or helping someone repair something that needed attention, he was always willing to share his time, knowledge, and effort. His generosity and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
His sweet tooth was legendary among family and friends, and he was never one to pass up a favorite dessert, a cold drink, or an opportunity to celebrate with the people he loved. Joe believed life was meant to be enjoyed and shared with others, and he embraced every chance to make memories with those closest to him.
Some of Joe's greatest joys were found outdoors and in the company of family and friends. He loved fishing and spending peaceful hours by the water with a beer in hand. He also enjoyed the excitement of the race track and looked forward to trips to Las Vegas, where he could bowl with friends and family or try his luck at the tables. In his younger years, Joe was an avid golfer and spent many enjoyable days on the course before his knees made it difficult to continue playing. These activities brought him great happiness and created countless cherished memories with those he loved. He had the greenest thumb, taking great pride in his yard and gardens, nurturing them with care and patience. One of his favorite simple pleasures was watching hummingbirds stop by to visit, bringing life and beauty to the space he lovingly created. These passions brought him happiness and created countless cherished memories for those who shared them with him.
Above all else, Joe's greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He was blessed to share 58 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Valerie, building a life grounded in love, devotion, and cherished memories. Their story began by a baseball diamond in Irwindale, where they met and started a lifelong journey together. From those early days on, they shared a love for baseball and remained devoted Dodgers fans throughout their lives. Joe found his greatest happiness in the moments spent with Valerie, their family, and the people he loved most. His loyalty, sense of humor, kindness to strangers, and generous spirit will be remembered long after his passing. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of hard work, laughter, and an enduring love for his family. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the stories we share, the memories we cherish, and the lives he touched.
May he party in peace with the loved ones who have gone before him, and may his memory continue to bring smiles, laughter, and comfort to all who knew and loved him.
In honor of Joe's love for the Dodgers, we invite those attending his services to wear their Dodger blue. He would have loved seeing a sea of blue in celebration of his life.
As we gather to honor Joe and celebrate the life he lived, we ask for your understanding and consideration for his wife, Valerie. Due to ongoing health concerns, it is important that we help protect her health and preserve her immune system. We kindly ask that you offer your condolences from a respectful distance and avoid close physical contact during the service.
With Valerie's health in mind, the family has also chosen not to hold a reception following the services. However, we encourage Joe's family and friends to come together in their own way to share stories, laughter, and memories as they celebrate a life well lived.
Thank you for your love, support, understanding, and respect during this difficult time.
