John Henry Shier was born in Pasadena, California on June 11, 1924. He was born to Rose and Edward Shier, and was one of 5 boys. John's brothers are Lloyd, Harold, Earl and David. John's father was a building contractor, so it was not a surprise that upon John's return from World War II, he started and maintained a successful painting business for over 40 years.
John met his wife, Ann, after he returned from the War and after Ann immigrated from Ireland. John and Ann were married for over 50 years.
John was a loving Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Grandpa and Friend to us. The most important part of my Dad's life was us, his Family and Friends. In his youth, he was resourceful and determined during the years of the Great Depression and its aftermath. He was a paperboy, soda jerk, and someone who never backed away from a fight. He was a Warrior. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and fought in Italy with the 361st Infantry. He was eventually captured and served as a prisoner of war in Germany before being liberated by his Brother - Lloyd's army unit at the end of the war.
John was a Man of Integrity who worked very hard throughout his life to provide for his wife Ann and his sons Dan and Jack. John was very easy going and happy. He had a very warm and welcoming spirit about him, an embracing hand shake, an outgoing demeanor and smile that lit up a room.
John loved and was very proud of his Grandchildren - Zackary, Samantha, Jacob, Shannon, Piper-Jane and Tessa-Ann.....as well as his Daughter-In-Laws Amy and Terri.
John lived life with 'Optimism'. He was an optimist who loved to please others. He was not critical of people. He really didn't have an unkind bone in his body.
John is remembered for the good nature, care, and love that he brought to so many of our lives. Rest well our Warrior, beloved Brother, Husband, Father, Grandpa and Friend.
