Born on June 9, 1935, in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, Marjorie was the daughter of George A. West and Lydia Irene West. She was the third of four children—Doris Elaine West, Donald George West, and Patricia Anne West. Growing up, Marjorie cherished the simple joys of life: family outings to the beach, fishing, and clam digging. She found early passions in sewing, playing the piano, and writing letters with her brush pen.
After graduating high school in June 1953, Marjorie attended the University of Massachusetts in Boston, earning her Bachelor of Science degree with Cum Laude Honors on June 2, 1957. Shortly after graduation, while vacationing in Hawaii, she met the love of her life, Donald Lievsay. Their connection was immediate and enduring. Marjorie moved to Southern California, and the two were married in April 1962 in Ventura, California. They later settled in Arcadia, where they welcomed two sons: Donald Jr. in 1963 and David in 1966.
Marjorie embraced motherhood wholeheartedly. She ensured her sons were always supported, involved in activities, and encouraged in both their challenges and their passions. Her devotion to her family was unwavering.
For 15 years, Marjorie taught Home Economics to high school students, offering them practical skills, creative opportunities, and confidence for life beyond the classroom. Teaching came naturally to her, but she also possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit. A visionary with a gift for problem solving, she excelled in business and property management, passing those values and abilities on to her sons.
Her faith was a steady foundation throughout her life. A devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, Marjorie also participated in the Arcadia Women’s Club in her earlier years, contributing to social and community engagement.
Marjorie loved to travel and explored countless countries with her family. She delighted in attending musical concerts and found joy in simple pleasures—swimming, reading, and spending time with those she loved. Her life was a reflection of her belief that quality, intention, and care should guide everything one does.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Donald Lievsay Jr., and daughter-in-law, Zaura Lievsay. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and her son David.
Her beautiful life, lived with grace, curiosity, and devotion, will be cherished always.
