February 18, 1924-February 15, 2014
Mary Elizabeth (Carruba) Amundson, an Arcadia CA resident of over 50 years went to be with her Lord on February 15th 2014. She went home in her house, surrounded by her family, during her 90th birthday celebration. It was an appropriate farewell celebration for someone who lived for and loved her family.
Mary was born on February 18, 1924 in a country farmhouse outside Margaret Alabama the 7th of 12 children to Salvatore “Sam” and Jesse Carruba. She is survived by sisters Susie (Leland) Holcomb and Geneva Ferguson.
Mary met and soon married Staff Sergeant Milton Amundson of Wisconsin while working in Birmingham Alabama. The couple moved to California. The marriage produced four children, twins Melva and Melvin Amundson (both deceased) Linda LeBlanc and Peter (Jackie) Amundson. Milt predeceased her in 1973.
Mary loved family and friends, and she had an overwhelming amount of both. Her generous heart and Southern manners were always treasured. I think the only thing Mary enjoyed more than her children were her grand and great grand children. Mary leaves behind 18 grand children, 18 great grand children and 5 great great grand children.
The Midwest country farm boy and this cotton picker coal miner’s daughter have left a legacy, one that values the love of family.
Mary Amundson’s body will be laid to rest next to her husband at Turner and Stevens Live Oak Memorial Park 200 E. Duarte Rd. Monrovia California.
Viewing will be held in the Chapel on Friday February 21 from 5-8 pm
Funeral Service will take place in the Chapel on Saturday February 22nd at 1:00 with graveside immediately following.
Arrangements under the direction of Turner & Stevens Live Oak Mortuary, Monrovia, CA.
