Rachel Contreras, 97, passed away on August 11, 2026. Born on February 20, 1929, Rachel was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and grew up in El Paso, Texas. She later made her home in Westminster, California.
Throughout her life, Rachel met each day with steady determination and an unshakable will. In an era shaped by hardship, she sacrificed her education to help her family during the Great Depression—yet even then, she found ways to ensure her loved ones had what they needed. She carried herself with resilience and a practical strength that refused to accept defeat, always finding a way forward and a solution to whatever problem lay in front of her.
Rachel worked in the aerospace industry for many years and was recognized several times for the quality of her work. Her work ethic was unmistakable—rooted in diligence, pride, and a quiet selflessness that showed not only in what she did, but in how consistently she did it.
On the foundation of family, Rachel built a life defined by devotion. She married Juan Contreras Jr in 1951. She was the mother of Stella Garcia (born 1947), Robert Contreras (born 1952), and Richard Contreras (born 1956). Robert married Doris Ann in 1974, Richard married Linda in 1989, and Stella married Petronilo in 1982.
Rachel’s deepest passion was her grandkids, and she was instrumental in raising several of them. She gave of herself without hesitation, offering time, care, and steadfast presence—always placing the needs of others before her own.
Even with all she carried, Rachel made room for laughter. Her sense of humor was a shelter for those around her, protecting her family from worry and reminding them, again and again, that joy could still be found. Her greatest gift was her love of making people laugh, a light she shared freely and often.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Sophia and Will for taking care of Rachel for the last year of her life, and to cousin Kathy for looking in on her and making sure she had what she needed.
