Veronica Cecilia Schell Mazon was born April, 1927 in Pasadena, resided in Monrovia for over 50 years, and moved to Pomona in 2004. She graduated from St. Andrews High School in Pasadena, and attended Immaculate Heart College in Hollywood. Her favorite employment was the 10 year period when she operated the Instructional Media Center for the San Gabriel School District.
Veronica and her husband, Richard, danced for many years with two folk dance groups, later expanding to Ballroom, Victorian and Ragtime dancing. Color coordinated dance outfits became their trademark. Richard and Veronica joined the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) in Pasadena and as hospitality hosts provided refreshments for monthly meetings for five years. From the recipes she used, Veronica compiled, as a fund raiser for NAMI, her cookbook, "From Veronica's Veranda." She enjoyed working in the garden and loved flowers. Her interests included the works of famous Pasadena architects, and ethnic costumes. In her later years, she created Word Search puzzles which were than shared at the Senior Center and also sent to veterans hospitals.
Veronica had deep sympathy for the homeless, hungry and the poverty of American Indians on poor reservations. She belonged to Our Lady of Assumption Church where she was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Community Outreach, and the Women's Council. Veronica lived her life by an old-fashioned set of values, which included courtesy, kindness, generosity, honesty and compassion. She dearly loved her family, tried to be there when they needed her, and was always concerned for their wellbeing. She was considered "The Glue" which held the family together.
She was predeceased by her step-son, Stephen Mazon, sisters-in-law, Marjie Schell, Josephine Schell, and her brother Richard Schell. Veronica is survived by her beloved husband, Richard, brother, Bill Schell of Glendora, son Michael Hamilton of Pasadena, daughters Veronica Khalsa of New Mexico, and Heather Peterson and her son-in-law Marshall Peterson of La Verne, also 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grand-daughters, and nieces and nephews.
