My sincere condolences to Irene's family. I am grateful to have worked with her at the Commerce clinic.  She was a beautiful person and devoted a great deal to the staff and the patients we care for.  She will be greatly missed by her AltaMed family.

Irene left an imprint on my life and the lives of so many others.  Her passion for people was inspiring, her will and spirit admirable.  Her legacy will live on in the hearts of so many who were fortunate to know her and love her.

The last time I sat with Irene was over a pupusas dinner that Gustavo had purchased for my visit. Irene said she'd ask Gustavo to bring more cheese pupusas next time (because they were my favorite). Gustavo should share the pupusas location because they were delicious! An evening full of laughter, memories and chisme is one that I will always remember. My originally planned 2 hour visit became a 5 hour visit. I love talking to that woman. 

Irene and I became close when we both suffered the loss of a wonderful friend. The grieving was a little easier because I wasn't in it alone. Although at this time I feel alone she would always tell me "Ay mujer... Estas loca. You know better." I can't say I'll grieve easier but I know that you are now in a better place. Without pain... I will leave my selfishness aside and be happy to know that you get to enjoy heaven. But I know that just like me, there are so many that miss you and are saddened to have lost such a beautiful friend.

God's Beautiful Garden

God looked around the garden,

Irene, you will always hold a special place in my heart. You were more than a supervisor to me – you were a friend and mentor. I will always cherish our memories together. Remember that time you bought lunch for everyone at the clinic that Saturday, because you would say, "If I am going to give to one person, I am going to give to all." You were always so generous to everyone you met. I am blessed to have known you and will continue to do my best to make you proud. Your legacy will continue through your family and the work you put into your facility at West Covina. There are no words to describe what an impact you have made – all I can say is thank you, Irene, for everything. I love you and will miss you every day.

Thank you for opening your heart and home to me. Words will never expain what a blessing it is to call you a friend. I love you, I miss you and until we meet again please tell Dora I miss her. Irene I will always hold you close to my heart.

I have been trying to find the exact words that can express how I feel with the departure of my lovely wife...the truth is those words do not exist.....all I know it hurts so much is hard to explain.  But knowing the journey you went thru, after all the obstacles that you encountered,  all the pain you suffered during the treatments, I know that God is merciful and called you to his kingdom so you can now rest in peace and have eternal life in heaven. We will miss you and love you forever.

Irene you were a great friend and a great mentor.  You always greeted me with open arms and I loved you for that.  Thank you for being such a great friend.

En lo personal la trate poco por no vivir en CA, pero me di cuenta lo buena y servicial que fue en vida. Gracias a Ella mi hijo tuvo una madrina y fue una gran mujer que nos deja el legado de lucha, compasion, Amor y sobre todo que la familia Es lo primero. I met Irene when I joined AltaMed in 2000 and I always valued her direct-matter-of-fact professional style. Personally, she was my friend and I will miss her. I am comforted knowing that she is at peace with God. May Gustavo and his children find comfort in their memories of such as wonderful woman.
