She joined the Montevallo Civitan Club in 1994 and volunteered with the organization for the rest of her life. She served as treasurer for 12 consecutive years. Barbara was honored as the organization’s Civitan of the Year in April 2014 and was recognized for this achievement at the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce’s 36th annual Citizens’ Night Award Banquet. Barbara also served others at church. She prepared food as part of the Catholic Campus Ministry Cook Team and was renowned for her fried ham, a favorite among the college students who congregated for the dinners. She and Bob also participated in Primetimers, cooking and sharing monthly meals with their friends at the parish. Barbara’s community service endeavors extended beyond Civitans and church to Meals on Wheels. She enlisted Bob’s help to deliver food to Montevallo residents in need of a hot meal. Barbara was also a bridge enthusiast. Over the years she enjoyed many hours of fun and friendship playing the complicated card game with dozens of women from the Montevallo area. During their 57-year marriage, Barbara enjoyed accompanying Bob when he traveled for Westinghouse business. Together they visited Baltimore, Boston, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Portland, San Francisco, Vancouver and other locales. She delighted in sampling new restaurants and sightseeing. A funeral mass will be Wednesday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, with visitation at the church immediately afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Montevallo Civitan Club, 310 Crestview Drive, Montevallo, AL 35115, https://montevallocivitanclub.wordpress.com/
