Betty Blair Sides
April 18, 1939 – April 14, 2021
Betty Blair Sides, age 81, of Calera, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. Betty was born April 18, 1939 in Margaret, Alabama to Carl and Janie Blair. She was raised in Birmingham along with her sister, Emily.
Betty attended Woodlawn High School in Birmingham and received Certificate in Dental Assisting from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She later received her dental hygienist license at Mahan Dental in Brierfield, Alabama, where she was employed for more than 30 years. Betty was a skilled pianist who often played with the children's choir at Providence Baptist in Jemison, Alabama. Her love for the piano was evident in her final days as she continued to play for her family. Betty was also a member of the Red Hat Society and made many dear friends in her time within the organization. She was a wonderful cook, and loved hosting family holidays. She loved animals of all kinds but especially dogs. Betty would go out of her way to save a stray and spoiled her fur babies as if they were her children. Betty was also a strong willed woman - she knew what needed to be done, and wanted it done her way.
She will join in Heaven her husband and soul mate of 40+ years, Allen Walker Sides; dearly missed son, Allen Scott Sides; and parents, Carl Wilson Blair and Lonnie Jane Watkins Blair.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Blair Walker Sides (Kathryn) and Elizabeth Sides Rickey; grandchildren, Jarod Edwards (Ashton), T. J. Rickey (Breanna), and Hannah Rickey; great - grandchildren, Laker Edwards, Rowin Edwards, and Benson Blair Rickey; sister, Emily Corbett (Kenneth) children-in-love, Eliska Click and Kam Neal; beloved dogs, Blueberry, Chi-chi, and Shorty Brown; 26 year old Turtle, Splash; as well as a host of nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
Betty had a big heart, a kind smile, and never met a stranger. She loved and was well loved by all those who knew her, and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and community. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice and Miguel for the support, love, and cheer they provided Betty in her last days.

Beth, this breaks my heart to hear about your Mom. She was so much a part of my life growing up. She was always there to lend an ear to me no matter what my latest crisis was!! I know my father was waiting on her, yelling Betty!!!
