Bill Pendleton, age 90, of Montevallo, Alabama, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019. He was born on April 16, 1928 and was one of four children of P.D.D. and Eldice Pendleton. After graduating Montevallo High School, he joined the Navy and served during WWII. Bill served on the USS Harlan R. Dickson and spent time in France and Italy. After his time in the service, he returned to Montevallo where he soon after met Bertha Louise Barnett of Alabaster. They married and had one son. Bill was employed at Alabama Power Company until his retirement. He also volunteered with the Montevallo Fire Department and was Fire Chief for more than 20 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and grilling. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends at Eclipse and was a proud member of the McDonald’s Retired Old Men Eating Out (ROMEO) Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents, P.D.D. Pendleton and Eldice Hooker Pendleton; his siblings, Edmund Pendleton, twin Betty Pendleton, and Dudley Pendleton; wife, Bertha Louise Pendleton; and son, Gregory Pendleton. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Karen Pendleton; granddaughter, Anna Pendleton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
There will be a graveside service on Monday, January 14, 2019, at 1:00 PM at the Montevallo City Cemetery. Afterwards, there will be a Celebration of Bill’s Life at Rockco Funeral Home.
