Carolyn Wilkerson Woolley

Carolyn Wilkerson Woolley, age 88 of Matthews, NC, placed her hand in the hand of Jesus on August 16, 2025. A loving wife and devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was loved by all who knew her. Carolyn was born on May 29, 1937, the oldest child of Charlie and Pawnee Wilkerson. She graduated from Inverness High School, Bullock County, AL in 1954 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Montevallo, Montevallo, AL. She had a long career as a microbiologist where she worked in Cancer Research at Southern Research Institute, Birmingham, AL, retiring after 29 years.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Reese L. Woolley Jr.; granddaughter, Lindsey Woolley Aldridge; brothers, Charlie Wilkerson, Edward Wilkerson and Sammy Wilkerson; and two sisters, Sarah Wilkerson and Merle Wilkerson. She is survived by her children, Ed and Cindy Suites Woolley of Monroe, NC, and David and Connie Lindsey Woolley of Chelsea, AL; six grandchildren, Bradley Woolley and wife Evey Woolley, Michael Woolley and wife Hayley Woolley, Jonathan Woolley, Madilyn Woolley Croxton and husband Joshua Croxton, and Ellis Woolley, ten great-grandchildren; Piper Woolley, Juniper Aldridge, Noah William Rogers, Henry Reese Croxton, Beckham Elliott Croxton, Charli Jade Woolley, Hadley Mae Woolley, and Anderson Reynolds Croxton; sister, Jewel Wilkerson Shierling and husband Ray of Albany, GA; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Carolyn will occur Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), 3715 Highway 25, Montevallo, AL 35115, with visitation to begin at 1:00 PM, as well as a reception to follow until 3:30 PM. Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Jonathan Woolley, Craig Burke, Michael Shierling, Graham Shierling and Daniel Cook.
