Born on October 16, 1956, Cathi was the youngest of nine siblings born to Reuben L. and Edna E. (Jemison) Oakes. She grew up in the Arkwright community near Vincent, Alabama, a place that shaped her lifelong devotion to family. On October 4, 1982, she married the love of her life, Michael C. Tinney. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing in 2011, raising two children and remaining deeply involved in the lives of their grandchildren.
Cathi will be remembered for the happy and hyper joy she radiated, her strong will, her care of others, and her unwavering Christian faith. A natural caregiver, she provided comfort to many and was always willing to lend a helping hand. She truly brightened every room she entered. Cathi found her greatest happiness in the simple things: a good book or television series, crocheting, a cup of coffee or Dr Pepper at any hour of the day while sitting on a porch with anyone who would join her. She cherished the morning coffees and birthday lunches with friends, Sunday dinners with family, and gatherings with her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Fox (Jason Peterson); her son, Scott Tinney; and her grandchildren, Ryan Fox and Reagan Fox. She also leaves behind her sisters, Ruby Weeks (Don) and Martha Whitten (Frank); her brothers, Kyle Oakes (Martha) and Donald Oakes (Ellen); and a large circle of extended family and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael C. Tinney; her parents Reuben L. and Edna E (Jemison) Oakes; her sisters, Joanne Craig, Jane Foster, and Marilyn Johnson; and her brother, Charles Oakes.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama, where Cathi will be interred with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Shelby Emergency Assistance in Montevallo, Alabama.
