

Dan was born on August 27, 1948 in Chattanooga, TN to Roy & Ina Loftin. As a youth, they moved to Calera, AL where he and his siblings, Bobby, Linda & Charlotte were raised and where he lived the rest of his years.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Kathy Phillips Loftin; his daughters, Felisa Seal Guess (Greg) and April Loftin (John); his grandchildren, Daniel "Andrew" Guess (Alex), Emily Leonard (Adam), Mattie Leonard, and Owen Leonard; his great-grandchildren, Julia, Cecilia, & Amelia Guess and Harrison & Henry Jacks; as well as many family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Loftin; his mother, Ina Mae Loftin; and his brother, Robert "Bobby" Loftin.
Dan graduated from Calera High School in 1966, where he played multiple sports including basketball, softball, football and golf. He went on to graduate with his Bachelor's from University of Montevallo, where he was a member of the Miesters fraternity.
His early career was as a math teacher, girls' basketball coach, and girls' volleyball coach at UGA of Athens. He went on to work many years in the steel industry before venturing into business on his own. For over 30 years, he owned and operated SCF Specialty Fabricators.
Dan was known for his passion for golf. On any given day, you could find him hitting balls at the range or playing a round at the club. He won Timberline Club Championship multiple years and was always proud to talk about his many holes in one.
Dan loved his community and was active in many community events over the years. He served as statistician for the Calera High Eagles football team for 30 years.
Dan was known for his service in his church as well as his giving spirit. Dan leaves behind a legacy in his community and with his friends. The roles he loved most and was most proud of was that of a devoted husband, father and Papaw. Dan loved his family fiercely and was always proud to talk about them.
The family will be holding a viewing on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and a funeral service on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), followed by a burial at Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera. Rev. Brook Lovett will officiate.
