Charles served in the Air Force for eight years, a chapter of life that reflected his steady sense of duty and the work ethic that would define him in the years to come. During his service, he studied HVAC, earned certification in the field, and built a lifelong career around that trade approaching his work with reliability, skill, and the wisdom that comes from doing a job well, day after day.
He was married to his loving wife, Nelda, for 49 years, and their life together was the center of a family that cherished him deeply. He is survived by his son, Billy Hunt (Carson), and his daughter, Tara Davenport; his granddaughter, Hunter Davenport; his niece, Sydney Jones-Wright (Madison); his sister Jan Black (Jim), his best friend Billy Baker and his spoiled and dearly loved dog, Sadie.
Charles's enjoyment of life was as genuine as it was wide-ranging. He loved traveling around the world, spending time with friends, and admiring Corvettes. He found pleasure and pride in all types of gardening, and he especially enjoyed good music played at high volumes, an unmistakable signature of a home and life lived fully. Above all else, he loved his family more than anything in the world.
Alongside his steady wisdom and kind heart, Charles carried a sharp sense of humor that never seemed far from the surface. He could be a prankster, a great friend, and painfully honest, but would still bring levity when it was needed most, often with a well-timed joke and an unmistakable spark. In the lives he touched, he will be remembered as a deeply cherished man; a man of warmth, hard work, and enduring presence.
A celebration of life will be held at Rockco Funeral home on July 8, 2026 from 2-4 pm.
