

Christine G. Horton, age 92, of Jemison, Alabama, died peacefully at home on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Christine was born in Greenville, Alabama, on June 9, 1933 to Nolan Isaac Grant and Vera Mae Watkins Grant. She met her husband, Leo Kenneth Horton, at Livingston University, where she majored in education. After living in Birmingham, Metairie, Louisiana and Titusville, Florida, Christine and Leo settled in Jemison, Alabama, where they lived out their lives with their children and became dedicated members of the community. A third-grade teacher at Jemison Elementary for 26 years, Christine touched the lives of the hundreds of children and families in the area. She was a member of Montevallo Presbyterian Church for 57 years.
Christine is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Charles. She is survived by her brothers, Richard Grant (Betty), Earl Grant (Ethel), James Grant and Ed Grant (Robyn); her children, Ken Horton, Kathy Hall and Rick Horton (Lisa); grandchildren Nick Horton, Grant Horton (Allison), Halen Hall and John Horton; and great-grandchildren Tommy and Sadie Horton.
The family would like to thank Leo and Christine’s neighbors and friends for their companionship and support, especially Linda Hayes, Danny and Trudy Harrison and Betty Giles. Special gratitude to Louise Cleckler, Linda Henry and Jenna Earnest for their dedication to Christine’s care and wellbeing over the past few years.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2025, at Montevallo Presbyterian Church, with a reception to follow at the church.
