

Curtis Eugene Brazier, age 80, of Shelby, Alabama died on Friday, August 25th, 2017 at home with family by his side after fighting an extended illness, within minutes of his sister-in-law, Marilyn Dean Stewart of New Braunfels, Texas. Curtis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne Dean Brazier formerly of Evergreen, Alabama; his son, James Dean (Cathy) Brazier of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; his granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Brazier of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; his seven sisters, Ethel Taft of Montevallo, Alabama; Lillie (Dale) Reynolds of Anderson, Indiana; Lena (Thomas) Chesser of Hoboken, Georgia; Barbara (Tommy) Bailey of Mobile, Alabama; Diane Brazier of Montevallo, Alabama; Patsy Swack of Birmingham, Alabama; and Teresa (George) Birdyshaw of Gadsden, Alabama; his four sisters-in-law, Margarette Dean Smith of Evergreen, Alabama; Charilyn Dean (Mike) Bancroft of Evergreen, Alabama; and Ruby Brazier of Alabaster, Alabama, and 29 nieces and nephews. Curtis was born on April 22, 1937 in Pell City, Alabama to Andrew Harrison Brazier and Lottie Mae Smith Brazier. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Andrew Frank Brazier of Alabaster, Alabama. Curtis worked in the elevator industry his entire life, at one point owning his own home elevator company. He was a member of the National Elevator Industry Union and worked out of the Local 24 Union in Birmingham, Alabama for many years and retired from the industry in 1995. Curtis' life will be celebrated on Sunday, August 27th at 2:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), with visitation to begin at 1:00 PM. Scott Fowler will officiate and several friends and family will be speaking and honoring his life and death. He will be buried at Shelby Memorial Gardens in Calera, Alabama following the funeral. Pallbearers were Brent Thomley, Ross Ryals, Mason Huff, Pat Pouncey, Mike Bancroft, and William Myrick. Curtis was a hard worker; he loved being outdoors, watching birds, and tinkering with tools. He was known as the family handyman. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends as he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all.
