Dawn Loree Bowman, 65, died on July 3, 2018 after a long battle with breast cancer. Dawn was born on July 25, 1952 in Mansfield, Ohio to Alvin and Winifred (Satterfield) Lehnhart. She graduated from Madison High School in Mansfield, Ohio in 1970 and attended Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana for two years. On May 12, 1973 she married Philip Bowman. The couple recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
Dawn was artistic and creative. Her skills included oil painting, furniture restoration, floral arrangements, needlepoint, and quilting. She was a certified Master Gardener and also completed her certification in permaculture in 2013. She used her skill and considerable knowledge of plants to create a permaculture orchard in Calera, Alabama.
Dawn was a life-long follower of Jesus Christ. She attended church at the Wilton Bible Baptist Church. She was known for her kind, gentle spirit and selfless generosity to others. Dawn’s light shown through her love of dogs, including rescue dogs, and in her concern for the elderly.
Dawn dedicated her life and talent to her family. As she wished, she experienced the joy of the birth of her grandson and her daughter’s wedding.
Dawn was preceded in death by her mother, Winifred Lehnhart (Mansfield, OH) and her son, Ben Bowman (Homewood, AL). She is survived by her husband, Philip Bowman of Calera, AL; her son, John Bowman (Andrea) of Hoover, AL; her daughter, Brittany Bowman Adams (Cole) of Oklahoma City, OK; her father, Alvin Lehnhart of Mansfield, OH; her sister, Cheryl Kline (Matt) of Mansfield, OH; her brother, Matthew Lehnhart (Miriam) of Mansfield, OH; and her grandson, Evan Bowman of Hoover, AL.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at Wilton Bible Baptist Church, with her funeral service immediately to follow. A private burial will take place at Montevallo City Cemetery.
