Dorothy Elizabeth Thomas, 92, of Daytona Beach, Florida, died at home on July 1, 2026. Born October 3, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dorothy was one of three children born to John and Anna Ryan along with her brother, John, and her sister, Catherine. She attended Catholic school and graduated in 1950, carrying forward a steady faith that helped shape the way she lived and cared for others.
After graduation, Dorothy joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where she met Arthur Alfred Thomas. They were married on June 13,1953, at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, and began a life defined by devotion to family and to one another.
Dorothy and Arthur were blessed with seven children: Arthur Thomas, Jr. (Theresa), Michael Thomas, Donna Savary (Kevin), Robert Thomas (Lisa), Scott Thomas (Virginia), Danny Thomas (Roberta), and James Thomas (Valerie). She was also the proud grandmother of 18 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 22 great-grandchildren. Dorothy's greatest joy was found in these roles, and her love was expressed in countless quiet, thoughtful ways—through steady presence, attentive care, and a generosity that consistently placed others first.
Dorothy found happiness in the simple, beautiful rhythms of home and family life. She loved cooking, gardening, reading, painting, home decorating, and dancing—interests that reflected both her creativity and the care she took in making life warm and welcoming for those around her. Above all, Dorothy will be remembered for her selflessness and the faithful, enduring love she gave so freely.
Services will be held at the Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo, Alabama. After the service, she will be laid to rest with her husband, Arthur, at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
Dorothy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
