It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Edgar Harry Binder, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud veteran. He died peacefully on November 22, 2025 at the age of 89.
Born on March 15, 1936, in Beulah, North Dakota, Edgar was the son of Harry and Magdelena (Guthmiller) Binder. He served his country with honor in the United States Army Artillery Regiment from 1956 to 1958, during which time he was stationed in Germany.
On January 19, 1963, Edgar married the love of his life, Betty Raab, in Highland Park, Illinois. Together, they built a family and welcomed two children into their home.
Edgar was a dedicated professional truck driver for 29 years, a career he pursued with passion, even owning several of his own big rigs. After retiring from the road, he and Betty returned to their roots in North Dakota for 15 years. In 2015, they moved to Alabama to be closer to their immediate family.
Edgar is survived by his devoted wife, Betty, with whom he shared 63 years of love and companionship. He was a loving father to his daughter, Patricia (Tony) John, and his son, Randy Binder.
He was a cherished grandfather to Aaron (Hiromi) Lewis and Jessica (Larkin) Sumerlin. His legacy continues through his great-granddaughters, Tiffany Lewis, Lucy Sumerlin, and Hannah Sumerlin, who brought immense joy to his later years.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Delores Dilger and Darlene (Gerald) Kirchen; and his in-laws, Ed and Lorraine Allmendinger.
A visitation for Edgar will be held Wednesday, November, 26, 2025 at 10:00am at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo), 3715 HWY 25, Montevallo, Alabama 35115, followed by a funeral service at 10:30am.
