Edith Merle Reid, age 91, of Montevallo, Alabama passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021. Edith was born June 13, 1929 to Reggie and Jessie Lucas. She was raised and spent her life in Shelby county along with five siblings. Edith was a long time employee of Merchants and Planter's Bank from which she retired in 1991. She was a life time member of Enon Baptist Church where she volunteered as treasurer and secretary for many years. Edith's relationship with God was unshakable, through strife, hard times, and the loss of many loved ones; her faith did not waiver. By far, Edith's greatest joy was becoming a grandmother, she loved her little ones, and they could not have asked for a better Granny.
Edith will join in Heaven her parents, Reggie Lucas and Jessie Key Lucas; first husband, and father to her son, William Wren Hall; husband of 45 years, James Foster Reid; along with many of her siblings.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Pat Hall (JoAnn), and Mary Reid Howard (Joe); grandchildren; Naomi Gillilan (Kevin), Sarah Bedwell (Matt), Ryan Howard, and Katie Howard; great-grandchildren, Emma Grace Gonzales, Paisley Bedwell, and Crosby Bedwell; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Bibb County Nursing Home for taking such wonderful care of Edith in her time of need and for letting them know she was secretly a favorite among staff. Edith loved and was so loved by her family, her friends, and her community. She will be dearly missed.
A visitation for Edith will be held Monday, May 10, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Enon Baptist Church in Montevallo, AL followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. A committal service will occur Monday, May 10, 2021 at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery, 4994 Co Rd 18, Montevallo, AL 35115
